India delivered a strong performance as the Blue Tigers held Panama to a 1-1 draw in a FIFA international football friendly 2026 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday. Ryan Williams put India ahead in the 41st minute. Omar Valencia equalised for Panama in the 68th minute with a powerful long-range effort.
The draw gave Khalid Jamil's team an encouraging result against a much higher-ranked opponent. India entered the match ranked 138th in the world, while Panama stood 44th in the FIFA rankings. The visitors were 94 places above India.
India Show Confidence Against Higher-Ranked Panama
India returned to Bengaluru for the first time since winning the SAFF Championship at the same stadium in 2023. The Blue Tigers showed no fear against Panama. The visitors had competed at the FIFA World Cup earlier this year, but India matched them well for long periods.
Panama controlled more possession in the opening stages. India stayed organised at the back and remained compact. The hosts also looked dangerous whenever they moved forward on the counter.
India Create Early Chances
India created their first good chance in the eighth minute. Akash Mishra sent a cut-back into the penalty area. Ryan Williams received the ball but could not get his shot away.
Williams came close again 10 minutes later. He pulled his effort just wide of the goal. Ashique Kuruniyan then created another opening midway through the first half. His effort found the side-netting. India continued to push forward and eventually found the breakthrough before half-time.
Ryan Williams Gives India the Lead
India took the lead in the 41st minute. Akash Mishra played a long ball forward. Williams made a well-timed run behind the Panama defence. The forward kept his composure and beat goalkeeper Marcos Reyes. His finish gave India a 1-0 lead just four minutes before the interval. India went into half-time with a deserved advantage.
Panama Fight Back After Half-Time
Panama stepped up the pressure after the restart. India goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu played an important role in keeping the visitors at bay. Five minutes into the second half, Gurpreet denied Giovany Herbert with an important save.
Panama kept attacking and eventually found the equaliser in the 68th minute. Omar Valencia received an opportunity outside the penalty area and produced a long-range strike. His effort beat the Indian defence and made it 1-1.
Panama Threaten to Take the Lead
The equaliser gave Panama fresh momentum. The visitors came close to taking the lead soon after. They hit the woodwork and continued to test the Indian defence.
Gurpreet once again had to make an important save to keep India level. The Blue Tigers, however, did not sit back. They continued to create opportunities at the other end.
India Push for a Late Winner
India nearly regained the lead late in the match. Substitute Edmund Lalrindika set up Manvir Singh, who came agonisingly close to scoring. Abhishek Singh Tekcham also had an opportunity after a corner but sent his effort off target. Neither side could find the winning goal as the match ended 1-1.
India Face Brazil and Uruguay Next
India will now turn their attention to two major international friendlies. The Blue Tigers will face five-time world champions Brazil in Kolkata on October 3. Three days later, India will take on Uruguay at the same venue. The two matches will provide another major test for Khalid Jamil's side.
