US-Designated Terrorist and Lashkar Leader Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar Dies After Mysterious Fall in Lahore
Senior Lashkar-e-Taiba commander and Hafiz Saeed aide Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar dies after a mysterious fall from the fourth floor of a building in Lahore, with the circumstances surrounding his death still unclear.
Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar, a senior Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander and close associate of Hafiz Saeed, died on Sunday evening after reportedly falling from the fourth floor of Markaz Qudesiai in Lahore, Pakistan. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear. Sarwar, also known as Abu al-Hashim Bhai, served as president of the Pakistan Markazi Muslim League in Punjab. Authorities have yet to establish the circumstances that led to his fall.

Sarwar's Role in Lashkar-e-Taiba

Sarwar reportedly handled financial operations for Lashkar-e-Taiba and worked to arrange funds across Punjab through the group's political wing, the Pakistan Markazi Muslim League. He maintained close ties with Saeed, the founder of LeT. The United States designated Sarwar as a terrorist in 2016. According to US authorities, he identified himself as a senior LeT member in Lahore and had been active in the organisation since the 2000s. Sarwar also served as LeT's emir in Lahore from 2015, making him an important figure in the group's regional operations and leadership network.

US Identified Sarwar's Links With Senior LeT Leaders

The US Justice Department previously outlined Sarwar's connections with the organisation's senior leadership. It said he maintained close relationships with prominent LeT figures while serving as the group's Lahore emir. The department stated, "As the LeT emir of Lahore, Sarwar maintains relationships with LeT’s most senior leaders. Between 2012 and 2013, Sarwar worked with LeT’s foreign affairs chief Hafiz Abdul Rahman Makki, and in early 2013, Makki asked Sarwar for money to pay for his travel within Pakistan." Sarwar's death comes amid uncertainty over the circumstances of the reported fall. Further details about the incident have not yet emerged.
