Delhi woke up to heavy rainfall on Saturday. The showers quickly triggered waterlogging and slowed traffic in several parts of the city. Rain lashed Shastri Bhawan, RK Puram, Moti Bagh, and Kidwai Nagar.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for the day. The warning covers North, West, South, South-East, and Central Delhi. It predicts very heavy rain, lightning, and thunderstorms.

Key Areas Face Flooding

Waterlogging appeared in several busy stretches. Panchkuian Marg, Minto Road, and Mathura Road went under water. Bharat Mandapam’s Gate No. 7 was also flooded in the early hours, ANI reported.

The alert extended to the National Capital Region (NCR). Ghaziabad received a red alert, while Gautam Budh Nagar got a yellow alert for thunderstorms and lightning.

Forecast for the Capital

The IMD expects partly cloudy skies for the day. Light rain and thundershowers are also likely. The maximum temperature may stay between 32°C and 34°C. The minimum temperature will remain between 24°C and 26°C.

IMD Warns on X

The Met department posted a fresh update on its X handle. It said, “Moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by moderate thunderstorm and lightning is very likely to occur at most places of Delhi, NCR.”

It also warned of “light to moderate rainfall accompanied by light thunderstorms and lightning” in Gohana, Sonipat, Rohtak, Sohana, Palwal, Nuh, Aurangabad, and nearby towns.

Haryana and Himachal on Alert

In Haryana, the IMD issued an orange alert for Palwal, Gurgaon, and Faridabad. It warned of moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms.

In Himachal Pradesh, the IMD predicted continued rainfall for the next few days. Heavy rain is likely in many districts. The state will face an orange alert on August 11 and 12 in three districts, while the rest will have a yellow alert.
