Rajinikanth Returns With Coolie, Fans Celebrate in Unique Style
Rajinikanth’s latest film Coolie stormed theatres this Independence Day, and while the superstar’s magic drew massive crowds, fans also expressed their devotion with a viral artwork that turned an old wall into Thalaivar’s portrait.

Rajinikanth is back on the big screen with Coolie, one of the most awaited releases of the year. The film hit theatres on Independence Day, pulling in packed audiences who were eager to watch the superstar in another high-voltage entertainer.

But beyond the frenzy at the box office, a video circulating online showed fans going the extra mile to showcase their love for Rajinikanth in a striking and creative way.

A Wall Transformed Into Rajinikanth’s Portrait

The viral clip was shared on Instagram by artist Indrajith. Against the backdrop of lush greenery, an old house with algae-covered brick walls became the canvas for his art.

With a friend, Indrajith began chiseling the algae with small stones to carve out Rajinikanth’s face inspired by the Coolie poster. They enhanced the portrait by using white powder for finer details and even etched the film’s title “Coolie” beside the artwork.

The video, set to the powerful track Powerhouse from the movie, perfectly captured the superstar’s aura. Indrajith captioned it, “Whistle parakkatume..!!”

Coolie’s Storyline

Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie features Rajinikanth in the lead role alongside Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Soubin Shahir, and Upendra. The film also includes a special cameo by Bollywood star Aamir Khan.

The plot follows a former coolie union leader who takes on a corrupt syndicate exploiting workers in a port town, promising a mix of action, drama, and emotion.

Record-Breaking Box Office Numbers

The film opened to phenomenal success. On its first day, Coolie earned ₹44.8 crore net in India. By the second day, collections rose to ₹109.8 crore. With this, it became the fastest Tamil movie to cross the ₹100 crore milestone, surpassing earlier blockbusters like Leo and 2.0, which achieved the feat on their third day.

Overseas Success Adds to the Glory

The craze extended far beyond India. On day one alone, Coolie collected nearly $8 million overseas. According to Sun Pictures, its worldwide gross stood at ₹151 crore on the opening day.

This achievement not only set a new record for the biggest-ever Tamil film opening but also placed Coolie as the seventh-highest global opening for any Indian movie in history.
