EC Releases Final Voter List for Bihar Ahead of Assembly Elections
The Election Commission of India has published Bihar’s final voter list after a 22-year gap, paving the way for the upcoming assembly poll schedule.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday released the final voter list for Bihar. This came after a special intensive revision exercise. “In light of the special intensive revision, the final electoral roll has been published on September 30, 2025. Any voter can check their name details in the electoral roll through the provided link," the Election Commission said.

Poll schedule likely next week

Now that the list is out, the EC is preparing to announce the election schedule. According to sources, the announcement may come next week. Moreover, the Commission will visit Patna on October 4 and 5 to review election preparations.

Furthermore, officials expect the first phase of polling to begin soon after the Chhath festival in late October. In addition, the EC has appointed 470 observers for Bihar and a few assembly bypolls. A briefing for general, police, and expenditure observers will also take place on October 3.

Assembly term ends in November

Meanwhile, the term of the 243-member Bihar Assembly will end on November 22. The last assembly elections in 2020 were held in three phases during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Special revision after 22 years

Significantly, this final voter list follows a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The EC carried out the revision after a gap of 22 years. Earlier, it published the draft rolls on August 1. Individuals and political parties could file claims and objections until September 1. Notably, the draft had 7.24 crore electors.

Opposition raises concerns

However, opposition parties strongly criticized the revision. They argued that it could exclude crores of genuine voters. In response, the EC firmly denied the allegation. It said, “It will not allow any eligible citizen to be left out of the voter list and, at the same time, not let any ineligible person be on the list.”
