Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the Indian women’s cricket team after their World Cup triumph and had a cheerful conversation with the players. During the interaction, one topic that caught everyone’s attention was all-rounder Deepti Sharma’s Hanuman Ji tattoo, which even prompted a playful exchange between her and the Prime Minister.
PM Modi’s Question on Deepti’s Tattoo
While speaking with Deepti, who was named the Player of the Tournament, PM Modi smiled and asked about the tattoo of Lord Hanuman inked on her left arm. He jokingly said, "Aap tattoo lagake ghumti rehti hain, toh Hanuman ji aapki kya madad karte hain?" (You have a tattoo... how does Hanuman ji help you?), sparking laughter among the players.
Deepti replied with sincerity, "I have more faith in Hanuman ji than in me. Whenever I face difficulties, taking his name helps me a lot." PM Modi nodded in agreement, saying that faith in God helps people overcome their worries.
The Prime Minister also noticed the ‘Jai Shri Ram’ phrase in Deepti’s Instagram bio and asked her about it, once again drawing smiles from the team.
“Dadagiri” Joke and Shared Laughter
PM Modi continued the light-hearted tone, teasing Deepti about her on-field attitude. He asked with a grin whether it was true that she showed “dadagiri” during matches. The players laughed as Deepti shyly smiled at the comment.
Harleen Deol’s Skincare Question
The session turned even more amusing when Harleen Deol, one of India’s top-order batters, asked PM Modi about his skincare routine. The Prime Minister laughed and replied, "I do not think about all that," prompting another round of laughter across the room.
Celebrating India’s World Cup Triumph
The meeting came just days after India defeated South Africa by 52 runs to lift the Women’s World Cup trophy. PM Modi congratulated the players, head coach Amol Muzumdar, and BCCI president Mithun Manhas for their remarkable achievement.
Team captain Harmanpreet Kaur expressed her gratitude during the meeting. "Our aim is that we meet you again and again in the future and take photos with you and your team again and again," she said, smiling.
Harmanpreet also recalled their earlier meeting with PM Modi in 2017, after India narrowly lost to England in the final. "At that time, we did not come with a trophy. But it is a matter of great honour for us that this time, for something we have been working so hard for so many years, we have brought the trophy here," she said.
PM Modi Praises the Champions
PM Modi praised the team for their “great job” and highlighted how cricket continues to unite and inspire millions across India. The conversation, filled with warmth and humour, reflected both the Prime Minister’s appreciation and the nation’s pride in the women’s cricket team’s historic triumph.
