Women’s Hero Hockey India League 2025-26: SG Pipers Defeat JSW Soorma 3-1 to Stay on Top of Table
SG Pipers stayed on top of the table after a controlled 3-1 win over JSW Soorma, built on constant pressure and strong defence.

SG Pipers delivered a calm and commanding performance to beat JSW Soorma Hockey Club 3-1 in a Women’s Hero Hockey India League 2025-26 match at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astro Turf Hockey Stadium. The win helped the Pipers continue their strong run and remain at the top of the points table.

Lola Riera (13’), Jyoti Singh (18’), and Sunelita Toppo (58’) scored for SG Pipers. Penny Squibb (12’) netted the lone goal for JSW Soorma.

Fast Start as Teams Trade Early Blows

The opening quarter saw both teams play at high speed and attack with intent. SG Pipers and JSW Soorma pushed hard from the start, creating chances at both ends.

JSW Soorma struck first when Penny Squibb (12’) converted a penalty corner to give her side an early lead. However, SG Pipers replied almost immediately. They kept pressing and earned a series of penalty corners. On their fifth attempt, Lola Riera (13’) made no mistake and scored to level the match. The first quarter ended with the scores tied at 1-1.

Pipers Take Control Before Half-Time

SG Pipers raised the intensity in the second quarter and forced JSW Soorma into defence. They earned an early penalty corner but failed to convert. Soon after, the pressure paid off.

Jyoti Singh (18’) found space inside the circle and calmly finished to put the Pipers ahead. Both teams continued to attack at a quick pace for the rest of the quarter.

JSW Soorma came close to equalising through a penalty corner and a clear one-on-one chance for Sonam. On both occasions, Pipers goalkeeper Cristina Cosentino made sharp saves to protect her team’s 2-1 lead going into the break.

Strong Defence Keeps Soorma Quiet

SG Pipers started the third quarter on the front foot and created a few good chances, but they could not add to their tally. Still, their high pressing and organised defence limited JSW Soorma’s attacking options.

Despite being last season’s runners-up, Soorma struggled to break through as the Pipers stayed disciplined at the back. The score remained 2-1 at the end of the third quarter.

Late Goal Seals the Win

In the final quarter, SG Pipers focused on control and patience. They continued to test the Soorma defence and denied them space to search for an equaliser.

With 10 minutes left, JSW Soorma took a risk by removing their goalkeeper for an extra outfield player. The decision backfired. Sunelita Toppo (58’) went on a brilliant solo run and finished confidently to make it 3-1 and put the match beyond doubt.

SG Pipers closed out the game comfortably and stayed firmly at the top of the points table.
