India defeated Netherlands by 17 runs in the 36th match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. India chose to bat first and scored 193/6 in 20 overs. Shivam Dube smashed a blazing half-century. Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya made useful contributions and pushed the total past 190. Logan van Beek (3/56 in 4 overs) led the Dutch bowling attack, while Aryan Dutt took two wickets.

In reply, Michael Levitt and Max O'Dowd gave Netherlands a strong start. However, India struck back quickly. The Dutch side kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Varun Chakravarthy (3/14 in 3 overs) led India’s bowling effort. Shivam Dube also picked up important wickets.

Netherlands tried to stay in the chase, but India’s disciplined bowling kept them under pressure. Bas de Leede was the highest scorer for the Netherlands. India defended the total successfully and won by 17 runs. With this victory, India advanced to the Super Eight unbeaten.

Netherlands Compete but India Control

The pitch offered little pace and remained slow throughout. Netherlands executed their plans well. They kept India quiet for long periods. They even forced boundary droughts of 20, 19 and 16 balls. After 15 overs, India scored at under eight runs per over.

However, one dropped catch failed to hurt India. Eventually, Shivam Dube changed the game. His explosive 66 off 30 balls lifted India to 193. India then defended the total comfortably.

Aryan Dutt Dominates Powerplay

India chose to bat first. They wanted to prepare for bowling with dew later in the tournament. They also wanted to test their batting strength.

Aryan Dutt disrupted those plans early. The tall offspinner bowled quickly and kept a tight length. He cramped the left-hand batters and denied them room to drive or pull.

Abhishek Sharma, still searching for his first run of the tournament, backed away and tried to hit over mid-on. He missed completely and recorded his third duck. Dutt almost started with a wicket-maiden, but a bad bounce denied him.

Ishan Kishan tried to create scoring opportunities with pulls. Dutt remained disciplined. The ball deflected off Kishan’s pad and forearm before rolling onto the leg stump. India did not promote Suryakumar Yadav to break the left-hand combination. That allowed Dutt to also contain Tilak Varma. He finished with impressive figures of 4-0-19-2.

Seamers Apply Pressure

Netherlands’ fast bowlers supported Dutt well. They used slower balls and hit the pitch hard. Kyle Klein impressed, but Logan van Beek created key chances.

Van Beek forced two opportunities in one over. Michael Levitt dropped Suryakumar, offering India relief. Soon after, Roelof van der Merwe took a sharp catch at wide long-off to dismiss Tilak.

The Dutch bowlers maintained pressure with another 19-ball boundary-free spell. They kept India from accelerating in the middle overs.

Dube Shifts Momentum

Just as Suryakumar began to attack with a six over long leg, he found the fielder trying to repeat the shot. That brought Shivam Dube to the crease.

Dube started cautiously. He scored just six runs from his first 11 balls. He survived an lbw appeal through umpire’s call. With Axar Patel rested, Dube became India’s main aggressor against spin.

Once he attacked Colin Ackermann, the momentum changed. Dube did not rely on sweeps or reverse-sweeps. He stood firm and struck clean, powerful shots.

He handled slower balls effectively, which often trouble him. Even when Hardik Pandya struggled initially, Dube continued to dominate the spinners. Pandya eventually found rhythm and hit three sixes.

India scored 75 runs in the final five overs. Dube finished with six sixes in his innings.

Bumrah and Arshdeep Strike Early

The new ball offered some movement. Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh exploited the conditions. They bowled four consecutive overs together. They swung the ball both ways and generated seam movement.

Jasprit and Arshdeep forced 12 false shots and conceded only 22 runs. Netherlands fell behind the required rate quickly. In an attempt to recover, the openers attacked and lost wickets to Varun Chakravarthy and Pandya.

Varun Closes the Door

With the required rate climbing above 12 runs per over by the ninth over, Netherlands faced mounting pressure.

India experimented briefly with Abhishek and Dube, which allowed some runs. However, when 100 were needed off the last eight overs, India turned back to Varun Chakravarthy.

Varun nearly claimed a hat-trick. He dismissed Ackermann with a slog, bowled Dutt with a wrong’un, and almost breached Scott Edwards’ defence.

Dube, who had earlier conceded 23 runs in nine balls, recovered well. He executed wide lines precisely and dismissed Bas de Leede to effectively end the contest.
