Nissanka Fights Alone for DC

Pathum Nissanka gave Delhi Capitals a solid start and tried to hold the innings together. He scored 50 runs out of DC’s first 85 and batted at a strike rate of 172. However, the rest of the batting lineup struggled badly on a slow pitch that offered turn to the spinners.

The other batters around him managed only 33 runs at a strike rate of 103 during that phase. The difficult conditions made it hard for new players to settle at the crease. Even after hitting a boundary in the previous delivery, Nissanka stepped out again looking for another big shot. Anukul Roy bowled a slower and wider ball, and the batter lost his wicket through stumping. Roy struck again just four balls later to tighten KKR’s grip on the game.

KKR Spinners Take Full Control

Delhi Capitals stood at 74 for 2 after eight overs. However, KKR’s spinners soon took complete control. Roy, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy used the slow surface perfectly and kept the batters under pressure.

Between overs 12 and 16, DC managed only 11 runs in 30 balls. No IPL team has scored this slowly in that phase of an innings in nearly two decades. Roy showed excellent variation during his spell. He removed Nissanka with a slower wide delivery and later bowled Tristan Stubbs with a completely different ball.

Narine and Varun Continue the Pressure

Delhi Capitals slipped to 89 for 5, and the pressure only increased. Captain Axar Patel continued his poor batting form. He has scored only 44 runs this season with just three boundaries despite facing more than 50 balls.

Narine and Varun then tightened the screws further with accurate bowling and subtle variations. Narine finished with figures of 1 for 17 from four overs, while Varun gave away only 28 runs in his four overs despite struggling with a visible limp during his final over.

Ashutosh Sharma Helps DC Reach Respectable Total

Ashutosh Sharma finally broke Delhi’s boundary drought after 38 balls. He later reverse-swept Vaibhav Arora for a six in the 19th over and played an important cameo of 39 runs off 28 balls.

His late hitting pushed Delhi Capitals to 142 for 8, giving the bowlers at least something to defend.

Finn Allen Destroys DC Bowlers

Finn Allen completely changed the game during the chase. For the first time in his IPL career, he batted through the powerplay. This was only his eighth IPL innings, but he looked unstoppable.

Allen initially started slowly and scored 20 off 17 balls. However, once settled, he launched a brutal attack on Delhi’s bowlers. He smashed 10 sixes and dominated the spinners throughout the innings.

Allen reached his century in style by hitting the winning runs with a six when KKR needed only two runs to win and he needed six more to complete his hundred. He scored at a strike rate of 235 against spin bowlers and made 73 runs off just 31 balls against them.

Kuldeep Yadav endured another disappointing outing. While KKR’s spinners dominated the match with an economy rate of 6.33, Kuldeep struggled badly and conceded runs at 13.66 per over. Delhi Capitals also failed to bowl tight lines to Finn Allen. Both Kuldeep and Vipraj Nigam bowled several deliveries in Allen’s hitting zone, and the New Zealand batter punished them consistently.

Despite bowling during the powerplay, Axar Patel returned slightly better figures of 1 for 27 in four overs, but it was not enough to stop KKR’s commanding chase.
