Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed gratitude to Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, for personally reaching out and offering condolences following the deaths of 12 Indian nationals in a devastating explosion at Ras Laffan Industrial City in Qatar.

The tragic incident occurred at the Ras Laffan liquefied natural gas (LNG) complex, where a powerful explosion and the fire that followed claimed the lives of 12 Indian workers. Several others also suffered injuries and continue to receive treatment.

PM Modi Acknowledges Qatar Emir’s Support

After speaking with the Qatari leader, PM Modi shared details of the conversation on X. He thanked the Emir for his phone call and his message of sympathy during a difficult time for the families of the victims.

“I thank His Highness the Amir of Qatar for his phone call and condolences on the loss of lives of Indian nationals in the tragic accident at Ras Laffan Industrial City in Qatar,” the Prime Minister wrote.

The call highlighted the close relationship between India and Qatar and reflected the concern both leaders showed for those affected by the disaster.

Leaders Share Grief Over Tragic Loss

During their conversation, PM Modi and the Qatari Emir discussed the impact of the accident on the families who lost their loved ones. The Prime Minister said both leaders shared the sorrow of the bereaved families and expressed hope for the recovery of those injured in the blast.

“We both share the grief of the families who have lost their loved ones and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured,” he said. The remarks came shortly after the Emir contacted PM Modi to personally convey his condolences and solidarity following the deadly incident.

Explosion Leaves Indian Community in Mourning

The accident at the Ras Laffan LNG facility has deeply affected the Indian community in Qatar and the families of the workers back home. The explosion triggered a major fire, resulting in significant casualties and injuries among Indian employees working at the industrial complex.

Authorities are continuing efforts to support the injured and assist the families of those who died in the tragedy.

India and Qatar Reaffirm Commitment to Citizens

PM Modi also emphasized the strong partnership between India and Qatar. He said both countries remain committed to protecting the welfare, safety, and wellbeing of their citizens.

“India and Qatar remain steadfast in their commitment to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our citizens and stand in solidarity with each other,” he said.

His comments underscored the cooperation between the two nations as they respond to the aftermath of the accident and support those affected by the loss.

The phone call between the two leaders reflected not only their shared concern for the victims and their families but also the enduring ties between India and Qatar during times of tragedy and crisis.
