US President Donald Trump has issued a fresh warning to Iran, saying the United States will respond with military action if any vessel is attacked in the Strait of Hormuz. His remarks came as tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to rise and fighting shows no signs of easing.
Trump Threatens Military Response
On Wednesday, Trump shared a message on Truth Social, warning Iran against targeting ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. He said the US would strike critical infrastructure inside Iran if any attack on commercial or other vessels takes place.
"From this point forward, any time the Islamic Republic of Iran shoots at a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, whether it be by Missile, Rocket, Drone, or any other device or weapon, the United States will bomb and destroy ONE BRIDGE OR POWER PLANT, including those located next to, or in, the Capital City of Tehran," he wrote on Truth Social.
US-Iran Conflict Continues
Trump's statement came as the United States carried out its 11th straight night of military strikes against Iran. Diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the conflict have failed, leaving both sides locked in an escalating confrontation.
The dispute over the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the biggest points of tension between the two countries. The narrow waterway is one of the world's most important shipping routes, handling nearly 20 percent of global oil and gas supplies.
Energy Markets Under Pressure
The ongoing disruption in the Strait of Hormuz since February has triggered concerns across global energy markets. Supply uncertainties have contributed to an energy crisis and sharp swings in oil prices.
Following the collapse of the ceasefire, Brent crude climbed to around $94 per barrel for the first time, reflecting growing fears over disruptions to global energy supplies.
Iran Reports Rising Casualties
Iran says the renewed conflict has caused significant casualties. According to Iranian authorities, at least 53 people have lost their lives since the fighting resumed, including six women and three children.
The IRNA news agency, citing the Iranian health ministry, reported that nearly 600 people have also been injured during the past 11 days.
Iran Launches Counterattacks
In response to the US military campaign, Iran has launched several drone and missile attacks targeting Bahrain, Kuwait and other Gulf countries that host American military bases.
The exchange of attacks has further increased instability across the region and raised concerns about a wider conflict.
US Weighs Strike on Nuclear Facility
The United States is also considering military action against an underground Iranian nuclear facility. Speaking from the Oval Office on Tuesday, Trump suggested that Washington was not interested in holding talks at the moment.
He said the US had “no interest in meeting," and indicated that the American military could target the under-construction nuclear site at Pickaxe Mountain.
