Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the Bharatiya Janata Party’s new national team at the party headquarters in New Delhi on Saturday. BJP national president Nitin Nabin welcomed Modi at the office. The Prime Minister later posed for photographs with Nabin and the newly appointed office-bearers.

BJP passed a resolution on the history and legacy of Vande Mataram. The party also announced a nationwide campaign to spread awareness about the National Song.
The BJP announced its 65-member team on August 17. The team has 51 new faces. Kavita Patidar, K Surendran, Manoj Tigga and Sandeep Pathak are among the new members. The reshuffle also gives important roles to senior leaders such as former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje and former Union minister Smriti Irani.
Nitin Nabin Pushes Youth Outreach
Nitin Nabin held a meeting with the new office-bearers earlier on Saturday. He asked them to focus on “Yuva Samvad”. The term refers to regular engagement with young people.
The BJP plans to launch several youth outreach programmes soon. According to an India Today report, party leaders discussed ways to connect with people aged 14 and above.
The party has started forming special teams for this campaign. Senior leaders from different parts of the country will join these teams. The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha will help create and mobilise the teams. Former national office-bearers will also support the programme. The BJP aims to build stronger links with young people through this campaign.
BJP Passes Vande Mataram Resolution
The BJP also passed a resolution on the historical importance of Vande Mataram. The move came after the Congress Working Committee decided to follow its 1937 resolution. Under that decision, Congress programmes will feature only the first two stanzas of the National Song.
The BJP opposed the decision. It said the National Song’s legacy should not depend on political calculations. The party said the legacy of Vande Mataram cannot be “reduced to the calculations of contemporary vote-bank politics.”
The BJP described Vande Mataram as the National Song of Bharat. It said the song expresses respect for Bharat Mata. It also called it a key symbol of the freedom struggle and India’s national consciousness.
BJP Defends Complete National Song
The BJP said it would protect the honour and legacy of the complete Vande Mataram. The resolution said the party would “uphold the honour, dignity, legacy and national status of the complete Vande Mataram as the National Song of Bharat and as an immortal symbol of India’s national consciousness and freedom struggle… To affirm the constitutional and statutory status of Vande Mataram as established by the Constituent Assembly’s 1950 pronouncement and reinforced by Parliament’s 2026 amendment extending statutory protection to the National Song equivalent to that accorded to the National Anthem,”
The BJP also accused Congress of allowing political and communal considerations to influence its decision. The party said it would oppose any attempt to place the National Song below communal pressure, political appeasement or vote-bank politics.
BJP Targets Congress’ 1937 Decision
The BJP also questioned the Congress Working Committee’s authority to rely on its 1937 resolution. The party said that an old political decision cannot override India’s constitutional institutions and laws.
The resolution said, “…To remind the Congress that a resolution of its Working Committee cannot override the constitutional institutions or laws of the Republic of India, and that a political compromise of 1937 cannot be elevated above the constitutional settlement of 1950 and legislation enacted by Parliament in 2026….To expose before the people of Bharat the historical and political context in which the truncation of Vande Mataram took place, including the objections raised by the Muslim League and the subsequent politics of communal and separatist demands,”
The BJP plans to take the history and significance of Vande Mataram to people across the country through its nationwide campaign. The developments come as the BJP begins work with its new national team. At the same time, the party is expanding its youth outreach and intensifying its campaign around the National Song.
