Bangladesh crushed Indonesia Women by 71 runs in the low-scoring 4th match of the Women's Asia Cup 2026 in Dubai. After being invited to bat first, Bangladesh Women managed to score 129/8 in 20 overs.

Sobhana Mostary, who was playing her 100th international match, top-scored for Bangladesh with 40 runs. Shorna Akter provided an important late boost with a quick 31 off 18 deliveries. Ni Kadek Ariani (3/26 in 4 overs) was the most successful bowler for Indonesia Women, while Ni Luh Dewi also took two wickets.

While chasing, Indonesia Women struggled badly against Bangladesh's bowling attack. Left-arm spinner Nahida Akter (3/15 in 4 overs) was the standout bowler, while Marufa Akter also took two wickets. Maria Corazon was the top scorer for Indonesia Women.

In the end, Indonesia Women were bowled out for 58 runs in just 17.3 overs. With this win, Bangladesh Women started their Asia Cup campaign in strong fashion.

Indonesia put Bangladesh under pressure

Indonesia's Ni Made Putri Suwandewi generated swing from the start and immediately tested Bangladesh's opening batters. Bangladesh initially handled the movement well and collected four boundaries during the first two overs. However, Indonesia soon made their first breakthrough. Suwandewi struck in her second over when Juairiya Ferdous mistimed an inswinging delivery towards cover point. Ni Ariani moved forward and completed an excellent low catch.

The wicket slowed Bangladesh's progress. Mostary and Dilara Akter found it difficult to score freely against the Indonesian attack. Bangladesh managed only one boundary between the third over and the end of the powerplay and finished the first six overs at 30 for 1.

Indonesia's spinners continued to bowl with discipline after the powerplay. They gave the Bangladesh batters very few scoring opportunities and forced them to take risks.

Mostary and Dilara tried to rebuild the innings, but the partnership never developed into a major one. Ariani eventually dismissed Dilara for 27 from 31 balls. At the halfway stage, Bangladesh had reached 58 for 2 and still had plenty of work to do to post a competitive score.

Shorna provides late momentum

Bangladesh struggled to find boundaries for much of the middle overs. Their first six of the innings came only in the 13th over, when Mostary cleared the boundary. Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana, however, could not stay for long. Sixteen-year-old leg-spinner Sofia Velic, playing her first international match, removed the Bangladesh captain and claimed an important wicket on debut.

Mostary then took responsibility for pushing Bangladesh towards a stronger total. Indonesia's bowlers, though, continued to keep the pressure on. Their disciplined effort was rewarded again in the 17th over. Ni Luh Dewi dismissed Mostary for 40 before also removing Ritu Moni. Bangladesh were once again in trouble.

Shorna then changed the tempo of the innings. She struck a six and a four and looked capable of taking Bangladesh towards a more competitive total. Indonesia also dropped three catches during the innings, but Bangladesh were unable to make full use of those opportunities.

The final stages produced another collapse. Ariani claimed two wickets as Bangladesh fell from 105 for 3 to 129 for 8. Bangladesh lost five wickets for just 21 runs in 17 deliveries. Shorna remained unbeaten on 31 and was unable to face enough deliveries during the final over as Indonesia finished strongly with the ball.

Marufa sets the tone

Indonesia needed a strong start in their chase, but Marufa Akter immediately made life difficult for their openers. The Bangladesh pacer produced movement in both directions and kept the Indonesian batters under pressure. She struck in her second over when Rahmawati Pangestuti edged a full delivery towards mid-on.

Marufa returned in her next over to claim another wicket. She trapped Maria Corazon lbw with a full delivery that swung sharply into the batter's pads. Indonesia had lost both openers early. Despite those setbacks, their start was slightly better than Bangladesh's own powerplay effort. The match changed decisively once Bangladesh's spinners took control.

Bangladesh spinners complete the collapse

Fahima Khatun, the experienced leg-spinner, ended Ni Putu Ayu Nanda Sakarini's difficult innings in the ninth over. The Indonesia captain faced 15 deliveries but managed only two runs before being trapped lbw. Sanjida Akter Meghla struck in the following over. She dismissed Ni Luh Dewi after the batter missed a length delivery that moved into her pads.

Nahida Akter then began dismantling the lower order. She took a wicket in the 12th over before producing a decisive over in the 14th. First, Nahida removed Suwandewi for three after the batter mistimed a pull shot. Sofia Velic was then run out for one after a quick throw from deep fine leg caught her short of her crease.

Nahida completed the over by bowling Ariani for two. Indonesia had suddenly collapsed to eight wickets down. Two further run-outs brought the innings to an end. Indonesia were bowled out for 58, giving Bangladesh a convincing 71-run victory.

The result gave Bangladesh a winning start to their Asia Cup campaign, while Indonesia's debut showed that their bowling attack can compete against stronger opposition despite the heavy defeat.
