Mamata Banerjee’s 31-Year-Old Niece Found Dead at Birbhum Home
Mamata Banerjee's 31-year-old niece was found dead at her residence in Birbhum, with police investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.

A 31-year-old relative of West Bengal Ex-Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee was found dead at her residence in Birbhum district on Tuesday, police said.

The woman was found dead inside a room on the second floor of her house in Kusumba village in the Rampurhat area. According to police, the incident came to light on Tuesday afternoon. The deceased was the daughter of Mamata Banerjee's cousin brother.

Family speaks about her mental health

According to family members, the woman had been suffering from depression for the past few years and was receiving treatment. The family also said that she had lost her job after the Supreme Court cancelled the recruitment of staff in government-aided schools in West Bengal over alleged irregularities and corruption.

Her job loss was followed by a difficult period for her, according to relatives. However, police have not yet established whether these circumstances were directly connected to her death.

Police begin investigation

Police sent the woman's body for a post-mortem examination as part of the investigation. Officials said they are examining the circumstances surrounding the death and carrying out the required procedural inquiries.

“The circumstances leading to the death will be established after the post-mortem and other procedural inquiries,” PTI cited a police officer as saying.

The investigation is currently underway, and authorities are awaiting the post-mortem findings to determine the exact circumstances of the death.
