Rain Washes Out 5th T20I Between India and West Indies, Series Ends in 2-2 Draw
Persistent rain forced the fifth T20I between India and West Indies to be abandoned after 7.4 overs, with India scoring 118/5 as the five-match series ended in a 2-2 draw.
The fifth and final T20I of the five match series between India and the West Indies was called off after 7.4 overs of the Indian innings due to persistent rain. The match was initially reduced to nine overs per side. After being asked to bat first in the rain-affected game, India scored 118/5 in 7.4 overs before persistent rain forced the match to be abandoned. As a result, the series ended in a 2-2 draw.

Bengaluru Rain Restricts Fifth T20I to 7.4 Overs

The fifth T20I at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium faced repeated interruptions because of rain. The venue’s efficient drainage system, however, allowed the match to begin shortly after the weather cleared enough for play. The contest was initially reduced to nine overs per side. West Indies won the toss and chose to bowl first, hoping to restrict India to a manageable total. However, further rain brought the match to an early end after only 7.4 overs of India's innings. The West Indies never got an opportunity to begin their chase, and the series concluded without a deciding match.

Ishan Kishan and Naman Dhir Power India to 118/5

Despite the limited playing time, India’s batters produced an aggressive display. Ishan Kishan and Naman Dhir led the scoring with a series of powerful shots, helping the hosts reach 118 for five in 7.4 overs. Kishan struck two sixes during his 10-ball innings of 30 runs. Dhir was even more explosive, hitting three sixes on his way to an unbeaten 24 off just six deliveries. Their quick scoring gave India a strong total in the shortened contest and kept the pressure on the West Indies bowling attack.

Shamar Springer Leads West Indies Bowling Attack

Shamar Springer emerged as the most effective bowler for the visitors, finishing with figures of 2 wickets for 17 runs in 1.4 overs. One notable decision was West Indies’ choice not to use Roston Chase, who had been the leading wicket-taker in the T20I series. With the match cut short by rain, the visitors had limited opportunities to make further adjustments to their bowling plans.

West Indies Would Have Faced a Target of 84 in Five Overs

Had the rain stopped long enough to allow a five-over chase, West Indies would have needed 84 runs to win under the applicable revised-target calculations. A shortened second innings would also have created an important opportunity for India’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The experienced bowler was in line to make his first international appearance since 2022. Under the rules for a five-over T20 innings, a bowler can deliver a maximum of two overs. This could have allowed Bhuvneshwar to bowl two overs if the West Indies innings had gone ahead. However, the weather did not improve enough to make the chase possible, leaving the Indian bowler’s anticipated return on hold.

Persistent rain in Bengaluru prevented India and West Indies from completing the fifth and final T20I, leaving the five-match series tied 2-2.  The washout brought West Indies’ limited-overs tour of India to an underwhelming conclusion, but it also marked a significant moment for the hosts, whose winning streak in home T20I series came to an end after 12 consecutive series wins over four years. West Indies also showed their ability to challenge India during the ODI leg of the tour. Although they lost the three-match series 2-1, they successfully chased down a target of 350 in the only match in which they batted second. Although Bhuvneshwar could not feature in the final match against West Indies, he was scheduled to travel with the Indian team to New Zealand the following morning. India are set to begin a five-match T20I series against New Zealand on Thursday. The upcoming tour will provide another opportunity for the team to prepare for its next international assignment. The rain-affected finale in Bengaluru therefore ended the West Indies series without a winner, while bringing India’s long run of home T20I series victories to a close. Stay tuned with JUSZNEWS for regular updates!
