Nadaaniyan Faces Criticism, Dia Mirza Defends Young Actors
Dia Mirza condemns online trolling of Nadaaniyan actors, urging kindness and constructive criticism over personal attacks.

The romantic comedy Nadaaniyan, starring Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor, premiered digitally in March. However, after its release, the lead actors faced harsh criticism and online trolling for their performances.

Dia Mirza Stands Against Online Attacks

Dia Mirza, who played Ibrahim’s mother in the film, spoke about the backlash in a recent interview with Bombay Times. She expressed concern about the mental health of young actors and condemned personal attacks.

"I have never been in favor of personal attacks and find them extremely disrespectful. Everyone is free to have an opinion, but it shouldn’t be expressed at the cost of somebody’s mental health," she stated.

She further explained that the negativity can be overwhelming for young artists. "I’ve been concerned, especially for the younger actor, about the harshness of what’s being said," she said. She also pointed out a rising "culture of ‘eat the privileged,’" which she believes is unfair. "People have their own stuff to deal with," she added.

Success Means More Than Box Office Numbers

Mirza also reflected on how her idea of success has evolved. Earlier in her career, she linked success to box office performance and material achievements. However, over the years, she realized that true success is about dedication and preparation.

"It’s about being able to offer your best self to the opportunity," she said.

Jugal Hansraj Calls Social Media Attacks "Silly and Petty"

Jugal Hansraj, who played Ibrahim’s father in the film, also addressed the online trolling. In an interview with India Today Digital, he criticized personal attacks on social media. He called them "silly and petty" and encouraged constructive criticism instead.

Nadaaniyan and Dia Mirza’s Upcoming Film

Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment produced Nadaaniyan, with Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra as producers. The film features Jugal Hansraj, Mahima Chaudhary, Suniel Shetty, and Apoorva Mukhija in key roles. It is currently streaming on Netflix.

Meanwhile, Dia Mirza’s next film, Kaafir, will premiere on Zee 5 on April 4, 2025.
