IPL 2025 | KKR vs PBKS: Punjab Kings Eye Playoff Push, KKR Fight to Stay Alive
Kolkata Knight Riders face a must-win clash against in-form Punjab Kings in a high-stakes IPL 2025 battle at Eden Gardens.

Kolkata Knight Riders will host Punjab Kings in 44th match of IPL 2025. The game will be played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. It will begin at 7:30 PM.

KKR Need a Turnaround

So far, Kolkata Knight Riders have had a poor season. They have won only three out of eight matches. As a result, their playoff chances look slim. Therefore, they must win this match to stay in contention.

On the other hand, Punjab Kings have shown solid form. They have won five of their eight games. However, they recently lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru at home. Even so, PBKS hold fourth place with 10 points.

Punjab Take Confidence from Earlier Win

Earlier this season, these two teams faced each other. Punjab scored only 111 runs. Many expected KKR to win easily. However, they failed to chase the target and lost by 16 runs. Interestingly, PBKS created history by defending the lowest total ever in IPL. Now, they will try to repeat that result on Saturday.

KKR’s Batting Continues to Disappoint

So far, KKR have struggled in all departments—especially in batting. They have lacked intent and consistency. Notably, mentor Dwayne Bravo spoke about their mindset. He said, “The earlier defeats have hampered the mentality,” and added that players are low in confidence. Clearly, they must regroup quickly. Another loss could end their campaign.

At the moment, only Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi have batted well. The rest have failed to contribute. However, in bowling, Harshit Rana and Varun Chakaravarthy have delivered strong performances.

Eden Gardens Pitch May Help Spinners

Usually, Eden Gardens offers a high-scoring pitch. However, after a complaint from KKR, the surface has changed. Earlier, teams could post 220 easily. Now, scores are limited to 180-190. Moreover, spinners could benefit in the middle overs. Therefore, bowling first might be a better option, especially with dew expected later in the game.

Weather Likely to Be Match-Friendly

The weather in Kolkata will be warm and humid. The temperature will be around 28°C on Saturday evening. Humidity will be high at 86%. Fortunately, there is only a 1% chance of rain. So, a full match is expected without any interruptions.
