Despite Pakistan denying any role in the April 22 Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 lives in Jammu and Kashmir, India has presented strong evidence that contradicts Islamabad's claims. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri shared a photo showing senior Lashkar-e-Taiba commander and US-designated global terrorist Hafiz Abdul Rafiq leading the funeral of the terrorists killed during Operation Sindoor. The image also showed Pakistani Army officers attending the ceremony, which raised serious concerns about Pakistan’s support for terrorist activities.
Terror Leader Leads Funeral
On Thursday, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri addressed a press briefing on Operation Sindoor. He shared a photo that revealed Hafiz Abdul Rafiq, a top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander and US-designated global terrorist, leading the funeral of the terrorists killed in the Indian operation. The image also showed Pakistan Army officers attending the ceremony. This raised serious concerns about Pakistan’s support for terrorists.
Pakistan Army Officials Attended the Funeral
Later, the Indian Army released a list of Pakistani officials present at the funeral. These high-ranking figures include:
-
Lt General Fayyaz Hussain Shah – IV Corps Commander, Lahore
-
Major General Rao Imran Satraj
-
Brigadier Mohd Furqan Shabbir
-
Dr Usman Anwar – Inspector General of Police, Punjab
-
Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bherth – Member of the Punjab Provincial Assembly
Their presence confirmed that the event had full state backing.
Misri Questions Pakistan’s Message
Misri raised concerns about the image and Pakistan’s actions. He questioned what message such a funeral, led and attended by state officials, sends to the world.
He also pointed out that Pakistan opposed listing The Resistance Front (TRF) at the United Nations. This same group, connected to LeT, has claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam attack twice. “It’s also odd that the funerals of civilians are carried out with the coffins being draped in Pakistani flags and state honours being accorded. As far as we are concerned, the individuals eliminated at these facilities were terrorists. Giving terrorists state funerals may be a practice in Pakistan. It doesn’t seem to make much sense to us,” Misri said.
India Hit Only Terror Targets
Misri explained that India’s strikes on May 7 only targeted terror infrastructure. He made it clear that Indian forces chose their targets carefully. “We have made the point very clearly that all attacks on the morning of May 7 were against carefully selected terrorist infrastructure, terrorist targets. In fact, seeing some of the coverage of the aftermath of these strikes, including the funerals for the terrorists that were held yesterday, I think a lot of you have seen the reports and the coverage in the media,” he added.
Videos Show More Proof
Meanwhile, video clips have surfaced online. They show Pakistani security officials attending the funerals of terrorists killed during Operation Sindoor. Reports from PTI and CNN-News18 confirmed the visuals.
The funeral prayers for Qari Abdul Malik, Khalid, and Mudassir took place in Muridke. The ceremony was held under tight security. Rauf, the head of Al Khidmat—a known LeT front—led the prayers. Pakistan Army personnel were present there too.
India has used strong evidence to highlight Pakistan’s direct involvement in sheltering and honouring terrorists. The global community may now demand answers from Islamabad.
