James Comey Under Fire for Cryptic ‘86 47’ Instagram Post Targeting Trump
James Comey deleted a cryptic Instagram post after critics accused him of suggesting violence against Donald Trump using the coded message “86 47.”

Former FBI Director James Comey shared a puzzling photo on Instagram on Thursday. It showed bullet shells arranged to read “86 47.”
Soon after, people online accused him of calling for Donald Trump’s assassination.

Trump Jr. Responds Immediately

As expected, Trump’s eldest son reacted swiftly. Donald Trump Jr. was among the first to criticize Comey. He alleged the message promoted violence. Although Comey stayed silent, he deleted the post after the backlash intensified.

Understanding the Meaning of ‘86 47’

Interestingly, the number “86” is slang for “kill” or “eliminate.” The term comes from a grave’s dimensions — 8 feet long and 6 feet deep.
Meanwhile, “47” refers to Trump, who aims to return as the 47th president. Therefore, some anti-Trump groups use “86 47” to imply that Trump should be killed. The code has become a symbol of silent resistance.

Leaders Condemn the Message

Shortly after the post surfaced, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem reacted on X. She wrote, “Disgraced former FBI Director James Comey just called for the assassination of President Trump.” Moreover, she added, “DHS and Secret Service are investigating this threat and will respond appropriately.”

FBI and Secret Service Take Action

Additionally, an FBI official Kash Patel posted on X, “We are aware of the recent social media post by former FBI Director James Comey, directed at President Trump. We are in communication with the Secret Service and Director Curran. Primary jurisdiction is with the Secret Service on these matters, and we, the FBI, will provide all necessary support.”

Comey Remains Silent

Despite the controversy, Comey has not explained the meaning of his post. However, by deleting the image, he may have admitted the message was inappropriate. As a result, criticism continues to mount online and among political leaders.
