On Thursday, Trump posted on Truth Social. Meanwhile, Musk responded on X. Their exchange quickly turned into a war of words.
Trump accused Musk of receiving too much government money. He wrote, “The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts. I was always surprised that Biden didn’t do it.”
Musk Fires Back with a Warning
In response, Musk mocked Trump on X. He wrote, “This just gets better and better. Go ahead, make my day…” Additionally, he warned that ending those contracts could affect the International Space Station. He even announced that SpaceX would begin shutting down its Dragon spacecraft.

The Feud Began Earlier
Earlier this week, Musk strongly opposed Trump’s tax and spending bill. He argued that it would worsen the national debt, which has already reached $36.2 trillion.
At first, Trump remained silent. However, on Thursday, he finally responded. He told reporters, “I was very disappointed in Musk.” He also said, “Look, Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will anymore.”
Musk Plans to Launch a New Political Party
Meanwhile, Musk shared a new idea. He suggested forming a new political party. On X, he launched a poll asking, “Is it time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80% in the middle?”

This move shows that Musk may be planning to enter the political arena more seriously.
Speaker Johnson Gets Involved
Soon after, Musk questioned House Speaker Mike Johnson’s position. He asked on X, “Where is the Mike Johnson of 2023!?” He was referring to a past tweet where Johnson criticized the rising national debt.
In reply, Johnson defended his record. He wrote, “The Mike Johnson of 2023 is the SAME Mike Johnson who has always been a lifelong fiscal hawk – who now serves as Speaker and is implementing a multi-stage plan to get our country back to fiscal responsibility and extraordinary economic growth.”
Feud Could Hurt the GOP
Clearly, this ongoing feud could damage the Republican Party. Musk has a large following online. He also helped Trump connect with tech leaders and wealthy donors.
If this dispute continues, it may hurt the party’s image. In fact, it could impact the Republicans’ chances in the upcoming midterm elections.
