‘I Owe It to the Audience’: Shanaya Kapoor on Facing Online Criticism

As Shanaya Kapoor gets ready to make her Bollywood debut in Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, she is also learning how to deal with fame and public scrutiny. In a recent interview, the young actor spoke honestly about how she handles online negativity. Surprisingly, she doesn’t avoid criticism—she seeks it out.

“I Look for Negative Comments,” Says Shanaya

Shanaya admitted that she actively reads harsh feedback. In an interview with Screen, she said, “I’m someone who looks for negative articles and comments. I owe it to the audience to know what they are saying."

While many celebrities tend to ignore online hate, Shanaya chooses a different path. She accepts that negative remarks come with the job. Still, she shared how personal comments can be hurtful.

“Sometimes it can be very brutal, about how I dress, how I look, how my body is. Those I keep aside and filter out,” she explained.

Over time, Shanaya has learned how to deal with such comments. She said, “It has happened over time. I have had a journey before this, and through that, I have learned what to keep aside and what to take back. I take it in a positive way. It's a feedback on my craft to work on and getting better."

All About Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan

On Tuesday, the makers released the trailer for Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan. Fans responded positively and praised the visuals and story. The film features Shanaya Kapoor in her first role on the big screen. She stars alongside Vikrant Massey, who plays a blind man.

Directed by Santosh Singh and written by Mansi Bagla, the film is produced by Zee Studios and Mini Films. The movie is scheduled to release in theatres on July 11.
