Justin Bieber surprised his fans on Friday by unexpectedly releasing his seventh studio album, titled Swag. The pop star hinted at the release just hours before through cryptic billboards and social media posts. This is Bieber’s first album since 2021’s Justice and his first since welcoming his son, Jack Blues Bieber, last year.
Describing the album’s emotional depth, Def Jam Recordings said, “Inspired by his devotion as a husband and father, this new era of music has fueled a deeper perspective and more reflective sound, resulting in some of his most personal music yet.”
Teasers Appeared from Los Angeles to Iceland
Ahead of the surprise release, fans spotted billboards featuring Bieber in Reykjavik, Iceland, and Los Angeles on Thursday. Bieber later shared images of the ads and a tracklist on Instagram. The 21-song album includes tracks with emotional titles like “All I Can Take,” “Walking Away,” “Dadz Love,” and “Forgiveness.”
A Closer Look at Standout Tracks from "Swag"
Daises
The second track, Daises, is already being hailed as a highlight. It features Bieber’s signature soft vocals over lo-fi guitar, combining alternative R&B-pop in a slow, heartfelt style that longtime fans love.
Devotion ft. Dijon
Bieber collaborates with Dijon, a rising R&B artist known for his 2021 debut Absolutely and his recent work with Bon Iver. Devotion is a tender love song that showcases their emotional synergy.
Go Baby
Inspired by Bieber’s wife Hailey Bieber, whom he married in 2018, Go Baby is a loving tribute. He sings, “That’s my baby, she’s iconic, iPhone case, lip gloss on it,” referring to her Rhode beauty brand, which sold to Elf Beauty in a $1 billion deal.
Walking Away
Not all love songs are easy. In Walking Away, Bieber reflects on the challenges of marriage while still expressing his commitment. Its upbeat rhythm makes it ideal for a romantic kitchen dance.
Bieber’s Journey Before “Swag”
Justin Bieber rose to fame as a Canadian teen pop idol, working early on with Usher and manager Scooter Braun. He became known for R&B-pop hits like Baby, Sorry, and Stay with The Kid Laroi. A two-time Grammy Award winner, Bieber reshaped what it meant to be a young artist in the social media era.
In 2023, he sold the rights to his full music catalog — six albums including major hits — to Hipgnosis, a UK-based music investment firm. Though the deal’s exact value wasn’t confirmed, Billboard estimated it at around $200 million.
New Chapter as a Father
In August 2024, Bieber and Hailey announced the birth of their son, Jack Blues Bieber. His experience as a new parent clearly influences the tone and depth of Swag, adding a more reflective and mature layer to his music.
