FC Goa won 1-0 against East Bengal FC in the
Indian Super League 2024-25 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa. With this win, FC Goa moved to second place in the points table with 30 points from 16 matches. Brison Fernandes' goal in the 13th minute was the difference.
East Bengal's Early Chances
East Bengal began strong. Lal Chungnunga set up Vishnu Puthiya in the third minute, but his shot missed to the right. FC Goa quickly responded. Odei Onaindia took a shot, but it was blocked.
The Winning Goal
In the 13th minute, Borja Herrera crossed the ball to Brison Fernandes. Brison headed it into the net to put FC Goa ahead 1-0.
East Bengal kept pushing for a goal. Richard Celis took a long-range shot in the 20th minute, but it went over the bar. In the 37th minute, Jeakson Singh also had a chance, but his shot went just wide.
Second Half
FC Goa made a change, bringing on Ayush Dev Chhetri for Sahil Tavora. But it was East Bengal who started strong in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Richard Celis had a shot blocked inside the box.
East Bengal's Final Push
East Bengal continued attacking. In the 67th minute, Richard Celis had two chances, but both his shot and header were saved by FC Goa's goalkeeper Hrithik Tiwari. In the 88th minute, Lal Chungnunga tried a long shot, but Tiwari saved it again.
Key Performer
Brison Fernandes was the key player. He scored the only goal of the match. He also completed 13 out of 18 passes and made several tackles.
FC Goa will play Chennaiyin FC on January 25. East Bengal FC will face Kerala Blasters FC on January 24.
