JSW Soorma Hockey Club secured a thrilling 4-2 victory over Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers in the final Pool stage match of the Women’s Hero Hockey India League 2025. The match, held at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Astro Turf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi, paved the way for Soorma to advance to the Final against Odisha Warriors on January 26.

Englebert’s Hat-Trick Shines

Right from the start, Charlotte Englebert dominated the game, scoring a hat-trick in the 1st, 17th, and 47th minutes. Additionally, Hina Bano contributed with a crucial goal in the 9th minute. Meanwhile, the Tigers fought back with late goals from Vandana Katariya (48') and Shilpi Dabas (58'), but Soorma maintained their lead and secured the win. Englebert wasted no time, capitalizing on a loose pass to open the scoring in the first minute. Furthermore, Soorma kept up the intensity, and halfway through the first quarter, Sharmila Devi’s pass found Hina Bano, who skillfully maneuvered past her marker and scored. Although Soorma earned a penalty corner before the quarter ended, they could not convert the opportunity.

Soorma Maintains Control

As the second quarter unfolded, the Tigers struggled to clear their defense. Shortly after, Englebert struck again with a reverse shot into the bottom corner, making it 3-0. While the Tigers attempted to respond with Rosin Upton testing Soorma’s goalkeeper Savita, Soorma remained dominant. Moreover, Maria Verschoor controlled the midfield with her timely interceptions and quick transitions, keeping the Tigers at bay.

Tigers Show Resilience

In the third quarter, the Tigers displayed more determination. They earned an early penalty corner, yet failed to capitalize. Subsequently, Kathryn Mullan had a clear chance to score but sent her shot wide. The Tigers continued to press, with Binima Dhan and Vandana Katariya taking shots on goal. However, Natalia Salvador’s outstanding saves ensured Soorma’s clean sheet remained intact.

A Decisive Final Quarter

Early in the final quarter, Soorma earned a penalty stroke. Englebert confidently completed her hat-trick with a precise flick to the bottom corner. Nevertheless, the Tigers responded with a counterattack led by Lalremsiami, whose cross found Vandana Katariya. Vandana stretched to push the ball into the net, reducing the deficit. Soon after, Shilpi Dabas converted a penalty corner with a powerful shot into the bottom corner. Despite these efforts, Soorma held their ground and emerged victorious.
