Odisha Warriors claimed a 2-0 win over JSW Soorma Hockey Club in a penalty shootout following a goalless draw in regular time in the
Women's Hero Hockey India League 2025. The match, held at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Astro Turf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi, saw Sonika and Kaitlin Nobbs score in the shootout. Meanwhile, Jocelyn Bartram made four crucial saves to secure the bonus point for Odisha.
Cautious Start to the Game
The match began with Odisha controlling possession, but Soorma's defense was solid. Neither team managed to create clear scoring chances. However, with just minutes left in the first quarter, Soorma’s Charlotte Stapenhorst won a penalty corner. Yet, Jocelyn Bartram came to the rescue with a crucial save, and the quarter ended 0-0.
Midfield Battle Continues into the Second Quarter
The second quarter saw both teams continue to battle in midfield. Odisha earned four penalty corners, but Soorma’s goalkeeper Savita blocked all attempts. Despite Odisha’s offensive pressure, neither team found the back of the net, and the score remained level at halftime.
Odisha Increases Pressure in Third Quarter
Odisha came out with more intensity in the third quarter, earning another penalty corner. However, Savita made an excellent save to deny Yibbi Jansen. Soorma then pressed forward but failed to register a shot on goal. On the counter-attack, Odisha’s Kaitlin Nobbs nearly scored from an acute angle, but the deadlock continued.
Soorma’s Last Push in the Final Quarter
In the final quarter, Soorma earned another penalty corner. However, Bartram was once again up to the challenge, making a strong save. Odisha launched a counter-attack, but Savita was quick to deny them. As the game drew to a close, Soorma’s last-minute penalty corner also failed to break the deadlock, and the match headed into a penalty shootout.
Odisha Triumphs in Penalty Shootout
During the penalty shootout, Sonika and Kaitlin Nobbs successfully converted their chances for Odisha. Bartram stood tall in goal, shutting down all of Soorma’s attempts. With this, Odisha secured a 2-0 victory and earned the bonus point.
