India defeated England by four wickets in the 1st ODI at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur on Thursday. India now leads the series 1-0. Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer played key roles in ensuring India’s successful chase.
With this victory, India takes a 1-0 lead in the series. Rohit Sharma has to work on his batting. Virat Kohli's injury before the Champions Trophy is also a concern. England’s Strong Start
England won the toss and chose to bat first. Initially, openers Phil Salt and Ben Duckett gave a strong start. Salt attacked debutant Harshit Rana, hitting two boundaries off his first over. Then, in the sixth over, Salt went on a rampage, hitting three sixes and two fours for a total of 26 runs. Duckett also played well, hitting three fours against Axar Patel. However, their 75-run partnership ended when Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul combined for a brilliant run-out. Salt made 43 off 28 balls. He reached his fifty in the 14th over with a stylish boundary. Together, they built a 94-run partnership, putting India back on track. Despite Iyer’s departure, India remained in control. Axar Patel joined Gill, and the two added a solid 108-run stand. Gill continued with confidence, reaching his fifty in the 25th over. Meanwhile, Axar contributed with 52 runs off 47 balls, including six fours and a six. As India neared victory, Rashid dismissed Axar in the 34th over. Hardik Pandya made an immediate impact, hitting a boundary. However, just when the finish line was in sight, Saqib Mahmood dismissed Gill for 87 in the 37th over, leaving India needing just a few runs to win. Finally, Ravindra Jadeja stepped up and finished the match in style. He hit the winning runs with a four, remaining unbeaten on 12 off 10 balls.
