Security Forces Kill 31 Maoists in Chhattisgarh Operation, 2 Officers Dead
A deadly encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Indravati National Park on Sunday killed 33 people, including 31 Maoists and two security officers, as part of a crackdown on Maoist groups.
Security forces killed 31 Maoists in an encounter today in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, according to the police. The clash started deep within the forest of Indravati National Park as a security team was carrying out an anti-Maoist operation. Unfortunately, two security personnel lost their lives in the gunfight.

Security Casualties

Sundarraj P, the Inspector General of Police for Bastar, confirmed the casualties. One of the fallen jawans was from the District Reserve Guard (DRG), and the other was from the Special Task Force (STF). According to an official, “Two jawans suffered injuries, and a helicopter has been dispatched to evacuate them to Raipur for medical treatment.”

Previous Operations

This incident marks the second such operation in Indravati National Park this year. Back in January, security forces successfully killed three Maoists in a similar mission. The park, spanning nearly 2,800 square kilometers, remains a Maoist stronghold despite being designated a tiger reserve.

Government’s Statement

Union Home Minister Amit Shah hailed the operation as a significant success. He also reaffirmed the government's commitment, stating, “We will eradicate Naxalism by March 31, 2026, ensuring no citizen loses their life due to it.” Shah offered his condolences, expressing, “I extend my heartfelt sympathy to the families of the fallen soldiers.”

Ongoing Crackdown

As of now, Indian forces have killed 62 Maoists this year alone. However, the battle comes with heavy costs: 11 jawans and at least nine civilians have been killed in Maoist attacks. Sundarraj P noted that the operation at Indravati National Park began after authorities detected Maoist activity in the area. He confirmed that a search operation is still ongoing.
