Mumbai police have given comedian Samay Raina until March 10 to appear before them. This is in relation to a controversial comment made by YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia on India's Got Latent. Raina's lawyer requested more time, saying Raina is in the United States. The police agreed and extended the deadline.
Allahbadia Missing
Meanwhile, police have been unable to find Ranveer Allahbadia. His phone is switched off, and his house is locked. Khar police visited his home in Versova on Friday but found it empty. Allahbadia had asked to give his statement at home, but the police refused.
Raina Takes Action
After the comment sparked outrage, Samay Raina removed all episodes of India's Got Latent from YouTube. The remark led to multiple complaints from viewers.
Police Investigations Continue
The Mumbai police have recorded statements from eight people, including Apoorva Makhija, Ashish Chanchalani, and Allahbadia’s manager. This follows a complaint filed by a BJP official.
Raghu Ram Speaks Out
Actor Raghu Ram also addressed the controversy. On Instagram, he said he doesn't regret his appearance on India's Got Latent. However, he emphasized that such jokes should not have been made as they caused harm.
Government and Police Take Action
The Maharashtra government has ordered an inquiry. The cultural department is investigating the matter. Additionally, Assam police want to question Allahbadia. A case has been filed in Guwahati, accusing him of promoting obscenity in his online show.
Maharashtra Cyber Involved
Maharashtra Cyber has summoned at least 50 individuals to record their statements. This is part of an ongoing investigation into the case.
