Men’s FIH Pro League: India Dominates Ireland with a 4-0 Win
India dominated Ireland with a 4-0 victory in the Men's FIH Pro League, showcasing strong defense and precise finishing.
The Indian hockey team crushed Ireland 4-0 in their second Men's FIH Pro League match in Bhubaneswar on Saturday. Notably, this back-to-back win followed their 3-1 victory in the first leg on Friday.

Early Control and First Goal

Right from the start, India took charge of the game. In the 14th minute, Nilam Sanjeep Xess opened the scoring after a brilliant assist from Amit Rohidas. He skillfully controlled an aerial ball, dribbled past two defenders, and ultimately scored on the rebound after hitting the post.

Missed Chances and Second Goal

Meanwhile, India earned two penalty corners in the 17th minute. However, Ireland’s goalkeeper Jamie Carr made crucial saves, blocking Nilam’s attempts. Despite missing their regular captain and drag-flick specialist Harmanpreet Singh, India continued to press forward. Consequently, in the 24th minute, Mandeep Singh deflected Amit Rohidas’s flick into the goal, doubling the lead.

Third and Fourth Goals

Shortly after, Abhishek scored in the 28th minute. He won possession in midfield and passed to Mandeep. Although Carr saved the first attempt, as well as Rohidas’s follow-up, Abhishek seized the rebound and found the net. Then, in the 34th minute, Shamsher Singh added another goal. Mandeep delivered a perfect cross from the right, and Shamsher expertly deflected it into the goal.

Ireland’s Fight and India’s Defense

In the final quarter, Ireland pushed hard to break through India’s defense. However, they struggled to convert their efforts into goals. With just over two minutes left, Ireland earned a penalty corner, but India defended successfully. Furthermore, India had two more scoring opportunities late in the game. Unfortunately, they were unable to convert them. Looking ahead, India will face England in Bhubaneswar on February 24.
