Authorities in Uttar Pradesh have filed over a dozen FIRs against 140 social media accounts for spreading false information about the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj. Mahakumbh DIG Vaibhav Krishna confirmed, “13 FIRs have been registered against 140 social media handles that shared misleading content.”
Police Intensify Social Media Monitoring
Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh Police’s social media team has increased surveillance. Officials became more vigilant after objectionable videos of women pilgrims bathing in the Triveni Sangam appeared online. As a result, they are taking strict action to prevent misinformation and maintain order during the religious event.
Full Preparations Underway for Maha Shivratri
With a massive crowd expected on February 26, the final day of the Maha Kumbh, authorities have stepped up arrangements. Consequently, DIG Krishna assured that “complete arrangements” are in place to handle the rush efficiently.
He further added, “Efforts will be made to ensure that there is no traffic jam anywhere in the Maha Kumbh area. All arrangements should run smoothly. No matter how big the crowd is, we are fully prepared.”
Millions of Devotees Attend Maha Kumbh
So far, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that 62 crore pilgrims have already taken a holy dip in the Triveni Sangam. In addition, the state’s information department reported that nearly 8.7 million (87 lakh) devotees performed the ritual on Sunday alone. Since the event began on January 13, the number of visitors has continued to rise.
Tight Crowd Control at Ayodhya Dham
Meanwhile, authorities have strengthened security at Ayodhya Dham railway station to manage the growing number of pilgrims. As a precaution, additional personnel have been deployed to ensure smooth movement and safety.
DSP Yashwant Singh explained, “We have increased alertness ahead of the ‘snan’ on Maha Shivratri. Additional security has been deployed here, after which the total number of personnel deployed is more than 350.”
As a result, officials have installed barricades to regulate the flow of people. Additionally, a holding area has been set up to manage passengers before their trains arrive. Singh further stated, “We are making regular announcements for trains so that passengers stay aware. They are being given entry only after their train arrives at the platform. We are ensuring that the platform’s passengers do not exceed its capacity. All arrangements are in place.”
