Rain completely washed out the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match between South Africa and Australia on Tuesday. As a result, not a single ball was bowled. A persistent drizzle kept the Rawalpindi pitch covered all day. Eventually, the umpires called off the game shortly after 5 p.m. local time.
Semifinal Race Heats Up
Despite the washout, both teams remain unbeaten in Group B. Consequently, they now have three points each and still have a chance to reach the semifinals. Moving forward, Australia will face Afghanistan in Lahore on Friday, while South Africa will take on England in Karachi on Saturday.
Strong Performances in Opening Matches
Earlier in the tournament, South Africa dominated Afghanistan. Notably, Ryan Rickelton smashed his maiden ODI century, helping his team post an impressive total of 315/6. As a result, they secured a commanding 107-run victory.
On the other hand, Australia also delivered a remarkable performance. Even though they were missing three frontline pacers, they successfully chased down 352 against England in Lahore. Thanks to Josh Inglis’ brilliant century, Australia set a new tournament record for the highest-ever chase.
The Road to the Semifinals
Meanwhile, New Zealand and India have already secured their semifinal spots. Both teams won their Group A matches against Pakistan and Afghanistan. Now, England and Afghanistan are set to clash in Lahore on Wednesday. Since both teams are fighting for survival, this match is a must-win. The winner will stay in the race for the semifinals, whereas the loser will be eliminated.
