Indian Super League 2024-25: Hyderabad FC Stumbles as East Bengal Clinches a 2-0 Victory
East Bengal FC secured a 2-0 win over Hyderabad FC, marking their third consecutive ISL victory with late goals and solid defense.

East Bengal FC defeated Hyderabad FC 2-0 in the Indian Super League 2024-25 match at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium, Kolkata, on Wednesday. This win marked their third consecutive victory in the league, a first in their ISL history. Despite having only 46.5% possession and a 76% pass completion rate, they made the most of their chances, converting both shots on target. As a result, East Bengal FC now holds the eighth spot with 27 points from 22 matches.

Early Pressure from Hyderabad FC

At first, Hyderabad FC dominated the opening 10 minutes. However, Nishu Kumar then led a counter-attack, passing to Raphael Messi Bouli on the left flank. Bouli had the option to pass to Dimitrios Diamantakos in the box but chose to shoot instead. Unfortunately, his attempt went over the crossbar, missing a great chance.

Hyderabad’s Response

In the 20th minute, Ayush Adhikari delivered a precise aerial pass to Edmilson Correia inside the 18-yard box. Correia advanced but faced pressure from Anwar Ali. Consequently, his final shot lacked accuracy, and Prabhsukhan Singh Gill saved it comfortably.

Missed Opportunities Continue

As the match progressed, East Bengal FC missed another opportunity in the 54th minute. Gill sent a long ball to Messi Bouli on the right flank. Bouli and Diamantakos advanced together, but Bouli chose to shoot instead of passing. His shot struck the woodwork, while an unmarked Diamantakos could have had a better chance.

A Golden Chance Wasted

At the one-hour mark, Richard Celis won possession and sprinted into Hyderabad FC’s penalty area. He passed to Naorem Mahesh Singh, who had ample space. However, he failed to control the ball properly and sent his shot off target, wasting a clear opportunity.

Decisive Moments in the Final Minutes

In the last 10 minutes, Hyderabad FC’s defensive mistakes and Messi Bouli’s persistence proved crucial. In the 86th minute, East Bengal FC earned a corner. Manoj Mohammed attempted to clear the ball but ended up scoring an own goal under pressure. As a result, Hyderabad’s defense looked disorganized.

Sealing the Victory

In added time, Saul Crespo and Messi Bouli combined for the second goal. As Hyderabad FC pushed forward, East Bengal FC launched a quick counter-attack. Crespo spotted Bouli in a central position and passed to him. With great composure, Bouli controlled the ball and shot into the bottom left corner, securing the win.

Key Performer of the Match:

Saul Crespo (East Bengal FC) was the standout performer of the match. The midfielder completed 32 of 41 passes. Additionally, he made one clearance, two tackles, and created three goal-scoring chances. He also delivered six crosses and registered an assist.
