The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) office in Bhopal, which operates from a rented house, has been locked by the landlord due to non-payment of rent for three months.
AAP Admits Financial Struggles
Madhya Pradesh AAP Joint Secretary Ramakant Patel acknowledged the issue, stating, "All this happens when we work with honesty. Things will improve. We are honest. Right now, our party does not have funds. So we couldn’t do it." He explained that the party relies on local funding, but their financial condition remains weak. Moreover, he was unaware of the exact amount of rent due or the duration of non-payment.
BJP Reacts
State BJP spokesperson Narendra Saluja commented on social media, writing on X, "AAP’s MP office locked, next number is of Congress."
AAP's Poor Performance in Madhya Pradesh
In the 2023 Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, AAP contested 66 seats but failed to win any. Unfortunately, the party secured only 0.53% of the total votes, which was even lower than the votes cast for NOTA (0.98%).
However, AAP saw initial success in the 2022 civic polls when its candidate Rani Agrawal won the mayoral post in Singrauli, defeating BJP’s Chandra Prakash Vishwakarma and Congress candidate Arvind Chandel.
BJP Defeats AAP in Delhi Elections
Last month, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) removed AAP from power in Delhi by winning 48 out of 70 seats in the Assembly elections. Consequently, several senior AAP leaders, including party convenor Arvind Kejriwal, former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Delhi Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj, and former ministers Somnath Bharti and Satyendra Jain, lost their respective seats. Additionally, party leaders Awadh Ojha and Durgesh Pathak also faced defeat.
AAP’s Declining Political Influence
AAP had previously dominated Delhi politics, winning 62 out of 70 seats in the 2020 Assembly elections and securing 67 seats in 2015. However, the latest election results came after BJP’s sweeping victories in Maharashtra and Haryana, further strengthening the party’s national political dominance.
