Punjab FC defeated Hyderabad FC 3-1 in their Indian Super League 2024-25 match at the GMC Balayogi Athletic Stadium on Thursday. Shami Singamayum made history as the youngest goal-scorer in Indian Super League (ISL) at 17 years and 322 days. Meanwhile, Muhammad Suhail, at 18 years and 175 days, became the league’s third-youngest player to provide an assist.

Although Punjab FC controlled only 43.7% possession, they dominated the match. They registered seven shots on target, whereas Hyderabad FC managed only two. As a result, this victory propelled Punjab FC to 27 points and ended Hyderabad FC’s five-game unbeaten streak at home.

Punjab FC Takes the Lead Before Halftime

Eventually, Punjab FC broke the deadlock in the 41st minute through an own goal by Alex Saji. Muhammad Suhail attempted a long-range shot after receiving a pass from Ricky Shabong. Although the shot missed, it pressured Hyderabad FC’s defense. Under pressure, Alex Saji misjudged a clearance and accidentally put the ball into his own net.

Majcen Doubles the Lead in the Second Half

After halftime, Punjab FC continued their attacking momentum. Majcen focused on scoring, while Suhail took on the playmaking responsibilities. In the 56th minute, Suhail delivered a perfect pass to Majcen. Without hesitation, the forward slotted the ball into the bottom left corner with his right foot, extending Punjab FC’s lead to 2-0.

Hyderabad FC Struggles to Respond

In response, Hyderabad FC intensified their attack, hoping to reduce the deficit. They maintained more possession in Punjab FC’s half but left gaps in their defense. Punjab FC capitalized on this in the 86th minute. Petros Giakoumakis led a swift counter-attack and set up Shami Singamayum outside the box. The youngster fired a left-footed shot into the center of the net, sealing the game at 3-0.

Hyderabad FC Scores a Late Goal

Despite trailing, Hyderabad FC continued pushing forward. Eventually, Ramhlunchhunga blasted a pass from Cy Goddard into the bottom right corner. However, they ran out of time to mount a comeback, and Punjab FC secured three points with a dominant performance.
