Pro-Khalistani Protesters Gathered Before Jaishankar’s Arrival
Earlier, protesters had gathered outside Chatham House long before Jaishankar reached the venue. As soon as he entered, they chanted pro-Khalistani slogans. Meanwhile, inside the event, Jaishankar participated in a discussion with Bronwen Maddox, Director and Chief Executive of Chatham House. Together, they explored topics such as India’s foreign policy, regional challenges, and global economic concerns.
Jaishankar to Address Rising Extremism in the UK
Currently, Jaishankar is on an official visit to the UK from March 4 to 9. During this time, he is scheduled to meet British Foreign Secretary David Lammy. Given Thursday’s incident, he is expected to raise concerns about rising extremism and the growing Khalistani movement in the UK.
In recent years, the Khalistani movement has gained momentum. As a result, Hindu temples and other Indian institutions across the UK have faced multiple acts of vandalism. In addition to discussing security issues, Jaishankar aims to strengthen India-UK ties in trade, health, education, and defence.
Jaishankar to Visit Ireland Next
Following his UK visit, Jaishankar will travel to Ireland from March 6 to 7. There, he will meet Irish Foreign Minister Simon Harris, engage with key officials, and interact with the Indian diaspora.
