A Memphis man said his one-year-old pit bull accidentally shot him while he was in bed with a female friend. According to WREG, he suffered a minor gunshot wound.
Police Arrive and Investigate
Soon after the incident, Memphis police responded to the shooting report. When they arrived, they found the injured man and his dog, Oreo. However, they did not find the gun. The man explained that his female friend had taken the weapon before officers arrived.
How the Dog Fired the Gun
As the man recalled, Oreo’s paw got stuck in the trigger guard, which caused the gun to fire. Consequently, the bullet grazed his thigh, leaving him with a minor injury. Shortly after, paramedics arrived and took him to the hospital.
Friend Describes It as a “Freak Accident”
Meanwhile, a friend of the injured man described the shooting as a freak accident. "The dog jumped up and caused the gun to discharge," the friend told WREG.
Additionally, the man’s female friend confirmed that Oreo was unharmed. She mentioned that the dog was playful and full of energy. When asked what woke her up, she simply said, "The gunshot."
Accidental Shootings Continue to Rise
Unfortunately, accidental shootings have claimed several lives. For example, last year, 23-year-old Aryan Reddy died after accidentally shooting himself. He was cleaning his new gun when it suddenly discharged. His friends rushed to his room after hearing the gunshot and found him in a pool of blood. Ultimately, this incident highlights the importance of proper gun safety.
