Ukraine Agrees to Ceasefire, But Russia Strikes Back
Ukraine agreed to a ceasefire and peace talks, but Russia responded with airstrikes, casting doubt on the truce.

Ukraine accepted a 30-day ceasefire and agreed to immediate peace talks with Russia after three years of war. Officials reached this decision during crucial negotiations in Jeddah on Tuesday. As a result, the United States lifted its freeze on military aid and expressed hope for an end to the conflict.

Moscow Strikes After Ceasefire Agreement

Hours after Ukraine accepted the ceasefire, Russia launched Kairstrikes on Kyiv. The Ukrainian Ministry of Digital Transformation reported air raid sirens sounding in ten regions, including the capital. Russian state-owned news agency RIA confirmed missile strikes also hit Kharkiv, a major northeastern city.

US Pushes for Full Ceasefire

US President Donald Trump pressured Kyiv while also engaging diplomatically with Moscow. At first, Ukrainian officials proposed a limited truce to stop air and sea attacks. However, Trump’s administration insisted on more. Eventually, Ukraine agreed to a full month-long ceasefire in a war that has claimed tens of thousands of lives.

Kyiv Defends Against Attacks

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that Ukrainian air defenses intercepted and countered the Russian strikes, according to The Guardian. The situation remains tense. Ukraine prepares for negotiations, but Russia continues its attacks. The next few days will determine whether peace talks move forward or if fighting escalates.
