Witkoff in Moscow: Key Talks on Ukraine War and Peace Proposal
Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff arrives in Moscow to discuss a 30-day Ukraine ceasefire with Russian leaders.

Steve Witkoff, a special envoy for US President Donald Trump, has arrived in Moscow. He plans to meet Russian leaders to discuss a potential ceasefire in Ukraine, according to reports.

Witkoff to Meet Putin on Ukraine War

Witkoff is set to meet President Vladimir Putin. Their discussions will focus on a 30-day ceasefire proposal. Earlier this week, U.S. and Ukrainian officials introduced this plan during negotiations.

Russia Signals Openness to Talks

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova confirmed Russia’s willingness to engage. She stated that discussions on the ceasefire could begin as soon as today. The proposal emerged from U.S.-Ukraine talks in Saudi Arabia.

Russia Submits List of Demands

In addition, Reuters reported that Russia has sent a list of demands to the U.S. Although sources did not reveal specifics, they noted that the demands were broad and resembled previous requests made to the U.S., Ukraine, and NATO.

Trump Administration Pressures Ukraine

For weeks, the Trump administration has pressured Ukraine to end the war. Officials repeatedly accused Ukraine of provoking the conflict. Moreover, they labeled President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a dictator and hinted at his removal. Behind the scenes, they even reached out to his political opponents to encourage regime change. However, after Ukraine agreed to a partial 30-day ceasefire, the focus shifted to Russia’s response.

U.S. Awaits Russia’s Decision

Following the U.S.-Ukraine talks, Secretary of State Marco Rubio stressed the importance of Russia’s reply.

“If their response is yes, then we know we’ve made real progress and there’s a real chance of peace. If their response is no, it’ll be highly unfortunate, and it’d make their intentions clear. So that’s what we’re hoping to hear from them,” Rubio said.

Now, as negotiations continue, the world waits for Russia’s next move.
