The US Senate passed a Republican-led spending bill on Friday, preventing a
government shutdown just hours before the deadline. However, the bill faced strong opposition from House Democrats. Now, it moves to US President Donald Trump for approval.
Democrats Divided Over the Bill
The 54-46 vote exposed deep divisions among Democrats. While some wanted to block the bill, others believed passing it was the better option.
On one hand, some Democrats argued that the bill ignored critical issues like health care and housing. On the other hand, others feared that a government shutdown would cause greater harm. In the end, enough Democrats backed Senate leader Chuck Schumer’s plan, allowing the bill to pass.
