Soon after, Selena proudly showed off her engagement ring. However, Benny later revealed that just hours before the proposal, Selena was not in the best mood.

Benny’s Proposal Plan Almost Failed

During their appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on March 20, Benny shared how his plan nearly fell apart. At first, Selena was grumpy and almost canceled their meeting. The couple joined the show to promote their new album, I Said I Love You First.

After congratulating them, Jimmy Fallon asked Selena if she had any clue about the proposal. She admitted that it was a complete surprise and changed her mood instantly. She explained, “We had to do a lot of promo for the album. So I woke up, and I was very confused on what was happening, on where we were going, because it seemed kind of far. So, I’m kind of a little grumpy. I’m, like, tired… I said, ‘After this shoot, I’m going to go hang out with my friends.’ And he starts, I guess, going, ‘Okay, sure. We’ll see when you get here.’”

Meanwhile, Benny jumped in and revealed that she was close to canceling their plans. He said, “She was like, ‘I don’t feel that well. I think I’m just going to stay home today. Can’t we just make up the shoot another day?’ And I was like, ‘Uhh…’ I’m trying to figure out a way to do it."

Benny Felt Nervous Before Proposing

As the big moment approached, Benny felt extremely nervous. He admitted, “First of all, getting engaged to someone is the craziest thing in the world. It’s like, right before you’re going to tell someone you’re going to be married to them forever. They’re like, ‘Show me how good you can lie to me.’ It’s the hardest."

Moreover, he mentioned that Selena had been upset with him the previous day. According to him, he was "making bad lies" while trying to keep the proposal a surprise.

Benny Planned a Special Proposal

Despite his nerves, Benny carefully planned the proposal. He made sure to include everything Selena loves, such as a romantic picnic with her favorite Taco Bell meal.

Wedding Plans Can Wait

Although fans are eager for wedding details, the couple is not rushing into planning just yet. For now, they are focusing on their album, I Said I Love You First.
