IPL 2025: Shreyas Iyer’s Blazing 97 and Arshdeep’s Heroics Seal Punjab Kings Win Over Gujarat Titans
Punjab Kings secured a thrilling 11-run victory over Gujarat Titans, with Shreyas Iyer’s explosive 97* and Arshdeep Singh’s clutch final over sealing the win.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) secured a dramatic 11-run win over Gujarat Titans (GT) in the final over of Match 5 in IPL 2025. Arshdeep Singh delivered under pressure, restricting GT below the 243-run target.

The match took place at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Gujarat Titans won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Punjab Kings Solid Start

Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh opened for PBKS, while Mohammed Siraj took the new ball for GT. Priyansh Arya wasted no time, smashing a boundary on the second ball. After two overs, PBKS stood at 16/0.

Priyansh Arya found the gaps and accelerated. Kagiso Rabada got the first breakthrough, dismissing Prabhsimran Singh for five runs. PBKS reached 28/1 after 3.1 overs. Shreyas Iyer walked in at No. 3 and made an immediate impact. He struck a boundary off his first ball and hammered a six on the fifth. After four overs, PBKS moved to 42/1.

In the fifth over, Priyansh Arya went after the bowlers, smashing three fours and a six. By the end of the powerplay, PBKS stood strong at 73/1, with Arya on 42 off 20 balls. Shreyas Iyer contributed 18 off 8.

Wickets Fall, But PBKS Keep Scoring

A solid 50-run partnership between Iyer and Arya ended when Rashid Khan dismissed Arya for 47 off 23 balls. Azmatullah Omarzai replaced him and immediately launched Rashid Khan for a six. After seven overs, PBKS reached 85/2.

PBKS crossed the 100-run mark in the ninth over. At the halfway stage, they were 104/2, with Iyer on 28 and Omarzai on 16. However, Sai Kishore turned the game in the 11th over, taking two quick wickets. Omarzai fell for 16, and Glenn Maxwell departed for a golden duck. PBKS suddenly slumped to 105/4.

Shreyas Iyer then counter-attacked, hitting two sixes in the 12th over. Marcus Stoinis joined in, keeping the scoreboard ticking. Iyer reached his half-century in just 27 balls. PBKS climbed to 139/4 after 14 overs.

Sai Kishore struck again in the 16th over, dismissing Stoinis for 20. PBKS stood at 166/5 with Shashank Singh at the crease.

Shreyas Iyer’s Explosive Knock

Shreyas Iyer unleashed his fury in the 17th over, smashing three sixes and a four. He raced to 90 off 38 balls, taking PBKS to 190/5. Shashank Singh also joined the fireworks, hitting two sixes in the 18th over. A disciplined 19th over from Rabada kept PBKS at 220/5.

In the final over, Shashank Singh stole the show, hitting five boundaries. Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 97, while Shashank ended with 44 off 16 balls. PBKS posted a formidable 243/5.

Gujarat Titans’ Chase Begins

Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill opened for GT. Arshdeep Singh bowled the first over, but Sudharsan started strong with a boundary. Gill opened his account in the second over. After two overs, GT reached 15/0.

Gill shifted gears in the fourth over, smashing two sixes and a four. GT moved to 36/0. In the next over, both openers hit sixes, bringing up a 50-run partnership.

Glenn Maxwell broke the stand in the sixth over, dismissing Gill for 33 off 14 balls. Jos Buttler came in at No. 3. By the end of the powerplay, GT was 61/1, with Sudharsan on 25.

Sudharsan and Buttler Lead the Charge

Sai Sudharsan kept scoring freely, while Buttler found boundaries in the ninth over. GT reached 93/1. In the 10th over, Sudharsan smashed a six and reached his half-century in 31 balls. GT stood at 104/1 at the halfway mark.

Sudharsan and Buttler continued their onslaught. In the 11th over, both hit sixes. GT raced to 121/1. Sudharsan looked unstoppable, but Arshdeep Singh provided a crucial breakthrough. He dismissed Sudharsan for 74 off 41 balls, reducing GT to 152/2 after 13 overs.

Sherfane Rutherford, brought in as an Impact Player, made an immediate mark with a six. GT reached 169/2 after 14 overs. However, the run rate slowed down. By the 16th over, GT stood at 182/2.

PBKS Hold Their Nerve in a Dramatic Finish

Vyshak Vijaykumar tightened the screws in the 17th over, bowling valuable dot balls. GT needed 56 runs from the last three overs. Rutherford broke the shackles with a four in the 18th over, and Buttler soon completed his half-century in 31 balls. However, Jansen removed Buttler in the same over, leaving GT at 199/3 after 18 overs.

Rahul Tewatia walked in at No. 5 and smashed a six on the last ball of the 19th over. GT needed 27 off the final over.

Arshdeep Singh came to defend the total. Drama unfolded as Tewatia got run out on the first ball. Rutherford hit a six on the next delivery, but Arshdeep cleaned him up soon after. Shahrukh Khan ended the innings with a six, but it wasn’t enough. Gujarat Titans fell short by 11 runs.
