Meanwhile, a dramatic video surfaced on social media. The footage showed the moment when the building, with a crane on top, collapsed into a massive cloud of dust. Consequently, onlookers screamed and ran for safety.
Bangkok Declared Disaster Zone
Authorities quickly declared Bangkok a disaster zone following the earthquake. The tremors hit the northern part of the capital. Within seconds, the building turned into a pile of rubble and twisted metal.
Widespread Damage in Myanmar
Furthermore, the earthquake caused severe destruction in Myanmar. In the Sagaing region, a 90-year-old bridge collapsed. Similarly, parts of the highway connecting Mandalay and Yangon suffered significant damage.
In Naypyitaw, the quake also damaged religious shrines. Some structures toppled, while houses developed cracks.
Stock Market Disruptions and Tremors in Other Regions
As a precaution, the Stock Exchange of Thailand suspended trading after the earthquake.
Moreover, mild tremors shook Kolkata and Imphal. In Kolkata, people noticed wall hangings swaying. Likewise, in Imphal’s Thangal Bazar, residents panicked, but no damage was reported.
In addition, Bangladesh felt the impact. A 7.3-magnitude tremor hit Dhaka and Chattogram; however, no casualties were reported.
India Offers Help
Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep concern. He posted on ‘X,’ stating, “Concerned by the situation in the wake of the Earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand. Praying for the safety and wellbeing of everyone.”
Furthermore, he assured that India is ready to assist. He also instructed officials to stay in touch with Myanmar and Thailand’s governments.
