Nepal’s High Earthquake Risk
Since Nepal lies in a seismic zone along the Himalayas, it frequently experiences earthquakes. For example, in 2015, a 7.8-magnitude quake devastated the country. As a result, over 9,000 people lost their lives, and more than a million buildings suffered damage.
Panic Among Residents
The earthquake startled residents, forcing them to rush out of their homes. However, there are no reports of damage or injuries yet.
“It shook us from our sleep strongly. We rushed out of home. People have now returned back to homes. We have not received any report of damage or injuries so far,” said Ganesh Nepali, a senior Nepali official, while speaking to Reuters.
Ongoing Monitoring
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation. Moreover, they are checking for possible aftershocks or structural damage.
