The action thriller L2: Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, is breaking records worldwide. The film, starring Mohanlal, crossed ₹100 crore globally in just two days.
A Record-Breaking Start
On Saturday, Aashirvad Cinemas announced the film’s success on Instagram. The post featured a striking poster of Mohanlal standing in a fiery forest with the text, "100 crore club creating history." The caption read, “The Cicada himself. #L2E #Empuraan surpasses ₹100 crore at the box office worldwide in less than 48 hours, setting new benchmarks in cinematic history. A heartfelt thanks to all of you for being part of this extraordinary success! Your love and support made this possible.”
Fastest Malayalam Film to Cross ₹100 Crore
According to Sacnilk.com, only ten Malayalam films have earned over ₹100 crore globally. However, L2: Empuraan is the fastest to achieve this milestone. On its opening day, it collected ₹67.50 crore, including ₹43 crore from overseas markets. Then, on day two, it added ₹32.5 crore, further cementing its dominance at the box office.
A Landmark Film for Mohanlal and Prithviraj
For Mohanlal, this marks his third film to surpass ₹100 crore after Pulimurugan and Lucifer. Similarly, for Prithviraj Sukumaran, who directed both Lucifer and L2: Empuraan, this is another major success.
Will It Become the Biggest Malayalam Film?
With Eid approaching on Monday, the film’s earnings are expected to rise even further. If it continues this momentum, it could soon surpass Manjummel Boys’ lifetime collection of ₹241 crore. As a result, L2: Empuraan might become the highest-grossing Malayalam film ever within its first week.
