Rahool Kanal, a leader of the Shiv Sena’s Yuva Sena (Shinde faction), said on Monday that the party would "welcome" stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra in true “Shiv Sena style” whenever he visits Maharashtra. Kanal, who was recently arrested along with 11 party workers for vandalizing Mumbai’s Habitat Studio, urged Kamra to appear in Mumbai and go through the legal process.
Kunal Kamra Faces Legal Trouble
Kunal Kamra, widely known for his sharp political satire, is currently dealing with legal cases in Maharashtra. Several FIRs accuse him of making derogatory remarks, leading him to seek protection from arrest. Due to these legal issues, Kamra has requested legal safeguards while he prepares to defend himself in court.
Madras High Court Grants Interim Bail
On Friday, the Madras High Court granted Kamra interim anticipatory bail. However, the court set a condition—he must submit a bond to the judicial magistrate in Vanur, Tamil Nadu. Kamra told the court that he has been living in Tamil Nadu since 2021 and feared being arrested by Mumbai Police if he returned to Maharashtra.
Shiv Sena’s Response to Court’s Decision
Reacting to the court’s ruling, Rahool Kanal told, “We welcome the court’s order that gives him relief, but it is only until April 7. He should come and face the law.” Kanal also emphasized that Kamra should not avoid the legal process and assured that he would be greeted “in true Shiv Sena style” upon his arrival in Mumbai.
Not a Threat, But a Call for Legal Compliance
When asked if his statement was a threat, Kanal dismissed the claim. He clarified, “It’s not a threat. Mumbai has a culture of ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ (guest is God), and since he now considers himself a guest, he has nothing to fear. He should follow the legal procedure.”
