Lucknow Super Giants edged past Kolkata Knight Riders by 4 runs in a thrilling, high-scoring IPL 2025 clash at Eden Gardens.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 4 runs in a high-scoring, last-over thriller. It was the 21st match of IPL 2025, held at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Mitchell Marsh gave LSG a flying start alongside Aiden Markram, and then Nicholas Pooran demolished KKR’s bowling attack. Ajinkya Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer gave a flying start, and Rinku Singh played a blazing knock towards the end, but KKR fell short by 4 runs.

Flying Start by LSG

KKR won the toss, and captain Ajinkya Rahane chose to bowl first. Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram opened the innings for LSG. Vaibhav Arora started with a tight over, giving away just three runs. From the other end, Spencer Johnson faced early aggression. Marsh launched a six, and Markram followed with a boundary.

Markram attacked Johnson again in the 4th over. LSG raced to 38/0 in four overs. Varun Chakravarthy bowled tightly, but Marsh and Markram counterattacked in Rana’s 6th over. They completed a fifty-run stand. LSG reached 59/0 after six overs. Marsh was on 21 off 17 balls (2 sixes), and Markram was on 36 off 19 (2 fours, 3 sixes).

Middle Overs Acceleration

Narine came in for the 7th over, but the batters kept scoring. LSG reached 95/0 after 10 overs. In the 11th, Harshit Rana broke the 99-run stand by dismissing Markram for 47. Pooran walked in and began with an aggressive intent. Marsh hit a boundary to complete his fifty. LSG were 106/1 after 11.

Pooran Rocked

Pooran and Marsh attacked Johnson. LSG moved to 138/1 in 13 overs. Pooran hit a six off Varun, and Marsh followed with another. They brought up 150 in just 13.3 overs and completed a quick fifty-run stand.

By the 15th over, LSG were 170/1. Russell removed Marsh in the 16th over for 81. Samad joined Pooran at the crease. LSG were 178/2.

Power Finish by Pooran

Pooran continued his fireworks, smashing sixes against all bowlers. He reached his half-century in just 21 balls. Rana dismissed Samad in the 19th over. Miller walked in and held the other end. Pooran stayed unbeaten on 87 off 36 balls, while Miller was not out on 5. LSG finished with a strong total of 238/3.

KKR Start Aggressively

Chasing 239, KKR opened with Narine and de Kock. Akash Deep bowled the first over and conceded 16 runs, including a six by Narine. De Kock followed with a six in the next over off Shardul. But Akash Deep struck in the 4th over, trapping de Kock LBW. Rahane came in at No. 3. KKR were 60/1 after four overs.

Rahane and Narine Build Momentum

Rahane and Narine looked to keep the momentum. In the 6th over, Rahane smashed Avesh for a six and took charge. KKR reached 90/1 after six overs. Rahane was on 35 off 15, while Narine had 30 off 12.

Digvesh Singh dismissed Narine in the 7th over. Venkatesh Iyer came next. A misfield helped KKR cross 100 in the 8th over. Rahane and Iyer built a solid stand. KKR were 129/2 after 10 overs.

Rahane’s Fifty, Then the Collapse

Rahane reached his fifty in 26 balls. In the 12th over, Iyer hit a boundary to complete their fifty-run stand. KKR looked strong at 150/2. But Shardul got Rahane for 61 in the 13th over. Then Bishnoi dismissed Ramandeep for a duck. Avesh removed Raghuvanshi in the 15th. KKR slipped to 173/5.

LSG Fight Back with Quick Wickets

Russell entered at No. 7. Akash Deep got Iyer in the 16th over for 45. Rinku Singh joined Russell. The momentum shifted again. Russell hit a six but fell to Shardul on the first ball of the 17th. Harshit Rana came next.

Rinku Singh looked for big shots and appeared desperate. KKR reached the 200-run mark in the 18th over. They scored 14 runs in the 19th over. Rinku finished the innings with a six, but KKR fell short by 4 runs. He remained unbeaten on 38 off 15 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes, while Harshit Rana stayed not out on 10 off 9 balls.
