Tahawwur Rana Lands in Delhi Amid Tight Security; Pakistan Backs Off
26/11 accused Tahawwur Rana landed in Delhi under heavy security after US extradition, while Pakistan swiftly distanced itself from him.

Officials brought Tahawwur Rana, 64, to Delhi on Thursday at 2:50 pm. He arrived on a special flight from the United States. Indian intelligence and investigation teams escorted him. Security was very high at Delhi’s Palam airport. Armed commandos and bulletproof vehicles guarded the area.

NIA Prepares to Interrogate Rana

Soon after landing, officials took Tahawwur Rana to the NIA headquarters. A high-security cell is ready for his questioning. The NIA will now investigate his role in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. These attacks lasted three days and killed 166 people. Authorities say Rana helped plan them.

Pakistan Tries to Distance Itself

Just before his arrival, Pakistan’s Foreign Office made a video statement. It claimed Rana had not updated his Pakistani documents in 20 years. It also said he holds Canadian nationality. But Indian officials believe this move was not random. They say Pakistan is nervous. A senior officer said, “Pakistan fears Rana will spill the beans... this sudden disavowal is nothing but strategic panic.”

Officials Link Rana to ISI

Indian agencies believe Rana has deep ties with Pakistan’s ISI and Army. They say he knows how the 26/11 attacks were planned with state support. His statements could expose Pakistan’s role.

Israel Praises India’s Efforts

Meanwhile, Israel welcomed the extradition. Its Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, said, “I would like to thank the Government of India for its persistence in bringing the terrorists to justice.”

US Supreme Court Denies Stay

India had pushed the US to extradite Rana under a 1997 treaty. After many court hearings, the US Supreme Court finally gave the green light. It rejected Rana’s plea to stop the extradition. The court wrote, “The application for stay addressed to the Chief Justice and referred to the Court is denied.” Rana’s lawyers said India might torture him because of his background. They pointed to his Pakistani-Muslim identity and political issues. But the court did not accept their arguments.

Rana to Appear in Court Today

Now, Rana will appear in a special court at Patiala House. The NIA will ask for his custody to begin questioning. The court hearing will happen later today. Extra security has been arranged to prevent any trouble.
