IPL 2025: LSG Stay Cool Under Pressure to Snatch Win Against GT in Final Over
Lucknow Super Giants chased down 181 with a composed finish, beating Gujarat Titans by 6 wickets in a thrilling last-over win.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) outclassed Gujarat Titans (GT) by 6 wickets in the 26th match of IPL 2025, held at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan gave Gujarat a solid and flying start, but Digvesh, Bishnoi, and Shardul bowled with discipline to restrict them to under 200. Markram gave LSG a blazing start alongside Pant, and then Nicholas once again tore apart the bowling attack to set the stage. Finally, Badoni played a composed innings to seal the win for LSG in the last over, despite a few late wickets.

Gill and Sudharsan Give GT a Flying Start

Lucknow Super Giants won the toss and chose to bowl first. Gujarat Titans opened with Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan. Shardul Thakur started the attack for LSG. Sudharsan hit a boundary off the first ball. However, Shardul kept things tight after that. Nine runs came from the opening over.

Akash Deep took over from the other end. Gill went after him and cracked two boundaries. He continued his aggressive approach by hitting another four off Shardul. After three overs, GT were 26 for no loss.

Partnership Builds Steadily

Digvesh Singh bowled the fourth over. Sudharsan ended it with a boundary. Both batters rotated strike well and added regular boundaries. They looked composed and in control.

Avesh Khan came in for the sixth over. Sudharsan welcomed him with a six, bringing up GT’s fifty and the 50-run partnership. After the powerplay, GT were cruising at 54/0. Gill was on 27 from 20 balls, while Sudharsan had 26 from 16.

GT Dominate First Half

Ravi Bishnoi came on next. The pair kept collecting runs at ease. GT reached 66/0 after seven overs. In the ninth over, Gill reached his half-century in just 31 balls. The score of GT became 88/0.

GT's 100-run stand came up in the 10th over, which produced 15 runs. Gill stood firm at 52 off 32 balls. Sudharsan followed with his own fifty in the next over, taking 32 balls to get there.

LSG Fight Back with Key Wickets

GT looked solid at 122/0 after 13 overs. Avesh Khan then broke the stand. Gill mistimed a big hit and Markram caught him near the boundary. He made 60 off 38. Jos Buttler walked in next. Avesh’s over yielded only 2 runs and a big wicket.

In the 14th over, Bishnoi struck twice. First, he removed Sudharsan for 56. Then, he dismissed Washington Sundar for just 2 runs on the last ball. GT were suddenly 127/3.

GT Lose Momentum in Final Overs

Sherfane Rutherford and Jos Buttler tried to rebuild. But Digvesh Singh dismissed Buttler for 16 in the 17th over. GT were 147/4.

Shardul Thakur returned and kept the pressure. GT touched 150 in the 18th over. However, they lost both Rutherford and Shahrukh Khan in the final over, bowled by Shardul. Gujarat Titans finished at 180/6 in 20 overs.

LSG Start Aggressively

Chasing 181, Aiden Markram and Rishabh Pant opened for LSG. Mohammed Siraj bowled the first over. Pant got off the mark with a single. Both batters found boundaries early. LSG raced to 28/0 after 3 overs.

Markram attacked Arshad Khan and Avesh Khan in the next over. He hit a six and a four off Prasidh Krishna in the fifth. Both Arshad and Sudharsan dropped Markram on consecutive balls.

Powerplay Belongs to LSG

Rashid Khan came to bowl the sixth over. The 50-run stand came up in that over. Pant and Markram each got a boundary. After the powerplay, LSG were 61/0. Markram was on 38 from 20, while Pant had 17 from 16.

However, Pant fell in the next over. He struck a four off the first ball, but Prasidh Krishna bowled him on the second. He scored 21 runs. LSG were 67/1 after 7 overs.

Pooran and Markram Turn the Game

Nicholas Pooran joined Markram and made an immediate impact. He smashed Rashid for a six. Then, in the ninth over, Pooran hit a six and Markram added a boundary.

Sai Kishore bowled the 10th over. Markram completed his fifty with a four, and Pooran hit three sixes in the same over. LSG exploded to 114/1.

Siraj returned in the 11th over. He conceded 9 runs. In the 12th, Prasidh removed Markram for 58 off 31 balls. Ayush Badoni came in as the Impact Player. It was a good over—just 2 runs and a wicket.

LSG Keep Control Despite Wickets

Pooran reached his half-century in the 13th over, taking just 23 balls. Siraj went for 15 runs in that over. LSG were now at 140/2. Prasidh tightened things with only 6 runs in the next over. Washington Sundar bowled the 15th. Pooran cleared the ropes again, and LSG reached 154/2.

LSG Win in the Final Over

Rashid Khan ended Pooran’s fireworks in the 16th over. He dismissed him for 61 off 34 balls. David Miller came to the crease. Badoni and Miller kept the scoreboard ticking.

Washington struck again in the 19th over, removing Miller for 7. Abdul Samad came in next. LSG were 175/4 with 6 runs needed in the final over. Badoni hit a boundary on the second ball of Sai Kishore’s over to level the scores. Then, he finished the match with a six. Badoni remained unbeaten on 28 runs off 20 balls, while Abdul Samad stayed not out on 2 runs from 3 balls.

Player of the Match: Aiden Markram

For Gujarat Titans, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan played well. Their shot selection was impressive. However, after their wickets fell, Digvesh, Shardul, and Bishnoi applied the brakes and helped restrict Gujarat to under 200. Rutherford tried to push the total but couldn’t take the score beyond 180. GT fell short by 20–30 runs, as the match went down to the final over.

Aiden Markram gave Lucknow Super Giants a flying start alongside the out-of-form Rishabh Pant. It was encouraging to see Pant timing the ball from the middle of the bat. Although he didn’t stay at the crease for long, the win in the end will boost his morale.

As usual, Nicholas Pooran demolished the bowling attack. He mostly dealt in sixes. There was a brief collapse after Pooran’s dismissal, but Badoni kept his cool and finished the game in style. Stay tuned with JUSZNEWS for regular updates!
