‘A musical moment in space’: Katy Perry sings as all-female Blue Origin flight returns
Katy Perry and five women made history as Blue Origin’s first all-female crew to fly to space in over 60 years.

Pop star Katy Perry and five other women made history on Monday as the first all-female crew to go to space in over 60 years. They flew on Blue Origin's NS-31 mission, marking a significant milestone.

The Flight and Weightlessness Experience

The 11-minute flight took off from West Texas and safely returned after reaching the edge of space. During the flight, the crew enjoyed moments of weightlessness. A video from Blue Origin showed the women feeling “weightless and limitless,” which quickly went viral on social media.

The Crew Members

The crew consisted of Perry, Lauren Sanchez (Jeff Bezos’s fiancée), CBS host Gayle King, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, scientist and activist Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn.

Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket ascended to 107 kilometers, crossing the Kármán line, which marks the official edge of space.

Post-Flight Moments

After experiencing weightlessness, Perry sang “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong. She held a daisy, a tribute to her daughter, Daisy. “I feel super connected to love,” Perry said after landing.

Historical Significance

This flight marked the first time in U.S. history that an all-female crew occupied all seats on a space mission. The only other all-female space mission was in 1963 when Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman in space.

Blue Origin has not yet disclosed the cost of the flight or revealed who funded it.
