Adnan Sami Stands Strong: Shares Why He Left Pakistan for India
Adnan Sami firmly responded to criticism over his Indian citizenship, highlighting his difficult past in Pakistan and his love for India.

Singer Adnan Sami recently responded to former Pakistani minister Fawad Hussain. Hussain had posted on X (formerly Twitter) asking if Sami would be sent back to Pakistan. His question came after Home Minister Amit Shah ordered Indian Chief Ministers to ensure no Pakistani nationals stay in the country after the Pahalgam terror attack.

Sami's Journey From Pakistan to India

Adnan Sami, famous for songs like Kabhi Toh Nazar Milao, Lift Kara De, and Tu Meri Mehbooba, was born in Lahore, Pakistan. However, he officially became an Indian citizen in 2015. His move to India sparked heated debates at the time.

Since then, Sami has shown great affection for India. In 2022, he also criticised Pakistan on social media, making his feelings clear.

Sami Explains His Feelings About Pakistan

In 2022, Sami posted a powerful message on Instagram. He wrote, “Many people ask me why I have such contempt towards Pakistan. The hard truth is that I have absolutely no contempt towards the people of Pakistan who have been good to me. I love everyone who loves me- period. However, I have major issues with the establishment. Those who truly know me will also know what that establishment did to me for many years which ultimately became one of the big reasons for me to leave Pak."

He also added, “One day, soon, I will expose the reality of how they treated me which not many know, least of all the general public which will shock many! I have remained silent about all this for many years, but will choose the right moment to tell all."

How Sami Became an Indian Citizen

After his Pakistani passport expired, Sami applied for Indian citizenship in June 2015. Since he had already lived in India for many years, he met all the necessary requirements. As a result, the Ministry of Home Affairs approved his application by late December 2015. His Indian citizenship officially began on January 1, 2016.

Safety Concerns Pushed Sami to Leave Pakistan

Earlier, in a BBC interview, Sami spoke about his decision to leave Pakistan. He revealed that he felt unsafe there, not only for himself but also for his family. After struggling with the Pakistani government for years, he finally found peace by gaining Indian citizenship.
